• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yes. Old, old DOS software.
I'm still running a few old VHF GM-300's on UTV's. Solid radios, but not much in the feature department.

Analog only, so no much you can do with them, especially the 800MHz model.
thanks. is software still available

I could not find the exact model (C instead of the F), my books show that to be a 15 watt trunking version.
Not too useful.
You could change the firmware to conventional, and reinitialize it to be a conventional analog radio.
But not really useful even at that on 800 mhz.
We used to change those to conventional and make them 900 mhz receivers for ham band repeaters, but there is a lot
better stuff around.
So its really only useful for parts.
I've even removed the ceramic filters and programmed them for low side image to use them for 700 mhz receivers.
More work that it is worth now, other stuff has become so much less expensive.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
They are ancient, more than old enough to drink. Old enough to retire from most jobs. They're from the 80s and 90s.
I would not recommend putting any effort into them. Odds are they aren't even narrowband capable, and thus would be illegal to operate on most commercial frequencies. But they are solid, reliable workhorses.

There is also a windows (XP?) ported unofficial CPS for the GM radios that also runs under win7, but it only allows the most basic parameters to be set and is not very intuitive as I recall. More ideal to get the DOS RSS version working in an old computer running DOS v6.1.

Dual core machine with a real serial port and FreeDOS or DOS 7.1 from Win 95/98 works just fine. Don't even have to disable the cache.

Very late reply, but I use a windows millennium edition laptop and the windows DOS box to program my maxtracs. It works most of the time but one maxtrac always gives me issues though it is a 32 channel one.
