• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So long story...short version. I was given a MCS-2000, M01MHL9PW4AN, I can use it as is, I have listed what is in the 28 channels programmed into the radio and it is all stuff local to my QTH, but it is the 220MHz variant I am suspecting is the Indonesian type radio. I have read other forums seen mentions of some sort of Euro or Indonesian type of RSS/CPS for the radio that I cannot find when searching, but I do know it was somehow programmed at one point and time because it has the SK hams call sign still in the radio on power up along with the channels.

So, not asking for freebies, etc per forum rules, but I would like to know knowledge wise, what is the correct software that I need, I have an older computer capable of running the needed items, the RIB, serial cables, USB cables with RIB the works, and possibly the right software but maybe some other factor not working. I have tried the CPS 02.02 and when attempt read, the radio displays CSQ, goes blank with lit screen, and then I get a cannot read radio, and radio resets fine. When I try 02.03 MSC-2000 the radio goes CSQ, then the light goes off blank screen, followed by a FL 01/90 error which I have looked that up as well and seen also in the forums that can be from using the wrong software on it, I assume i need to find the DOS RSS as I have had to do for other type older radios maybe?

The radio still resets with power to proper operation and is not bricked. Just need some actual/factual information to point me in the right direction, otherwise just going to use it as it and roll with it.

Thanks.

What you have is an MOF230, the software is a special windows based LAB version and it's pretty hard to come by

The software you are looking for is called Wookie. Someone was clearing out a bunch of Indonesian radios a couple of years ago on eBay and he included the software with the purchase of a radio.

Ok, well I appreciate that information, I have a Wookie version 2.01 (SKY) and it actually reads the radio, but I get several issues with it. First it reads the entire radio, but tells me it has suspicious errors, Error invalid data retreiving block emergency block (block discarded) checksum error in block; squelch/privacy (corrected) error: unsupported radio type (check 12m number) unknown radio model, and eventually radio cannot be programmed. Its a start. But I am guessing from experience that I need a clean code plug for this radio to fix all the junk that someone has evidently put there ?

I see one major problem is that the version that I have does not recognize that there is a 220MHz radio at all so guess I need to find the right version of Mobius Wookie? Am I on the right path there? I figured when it didn't show and the channels showing are 120.000 MHz that something is really off.
