• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a used MCS 2000 that I plan on doing some integrating with. I got it used and it did not come with a power cord. It looks like a pretty simple automotive type plug. I need to know which one is hot and which one is ground.

Moonboots with some of the questions I see you asking on the forums, do you NOT BELIEVE in google??

There are places that will give you EVERY THING you want/need to know, NOT just here.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I just answered a question about the MCS power plug. Who the hell are you to criticize me?

The exposed pin closest to the heat sink is positive. The other pin that is in the plastic is negative.

Thank you that did the trick. I am new to the Motorola arena. Now that I know this I double checked it before applying power by seeing if the ground pin shorted to chassis ground and it does. I should have thought to check this before but I really appreciated the response. I might need to post a new thread but I have a follow up question regarding getting 4 wire audio? I have previously integrated a Tait TM9155 with an added audio line card to achieve the 600 ohm audio with a Trunked Analog Gateway by using this pinout:

Description TAG Pin Conn (HD15) Pins Description

E&M Signaling Input 1 <---------> 9 13.8V from Radio
E&M Signaling Input 2 <---------> 12 Busy/Gate
Audio Input 3 <---------> 4 4W_Line_In - (Audio Out)
Audio Input 4 <---------> 10 4W_Line_In - (Audio Out)
Audio Output 5 <---------> 14 4W_Line_Out - (Audio In)
Audio Output 6 <---------> 15 4W_Line_Out - (Audio In)
E&M Signaling Output 7 <---------> 3 PTT-IN
E&M Signaling Output 8 <---------> 7 GND

I am not sure where to get the same inputs and outputs from the MCS 2000 accessory Connector

Pinout for the Accessory Connector

1 SPKR+ 14 SW B+
2 INT SPKR+ 15 IGNITION
3 SPKR- 16 I/O 2
4 DIGITAL GND 17 LH RESET
5 BUSY 18 BUS-
6 BUS+ 19 SCI RX DATA
7 I/O 8 20 I/O 4
8 I/O 5 21 I/O 3
9 EMERGENCY 22 RSSI OUT
10 ANALOG GND 23 EXTERNAL MIC IN
11 FIL AUD OUT 24 AUX TX IN2
12 AUX RX IN2 25 UNIV IO OUT
13 MIC IN

The Ground Pin 4 is easy enough but I am not sure where to get PTT-In. I think I may have to program it as a I/O. I am assuming I can get voltage from the Bus+ pin 6 which should b easy enough to test with a multimeter. The Busy gate pin 5 seems clear enough. I think I should use Pin 11 Fil Aud Out to go to my Audio Input on the TAG. The rest seems fuzzy on what is most appropriate. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of replies you send out make no sense or are completly incorrect cableguy. Are you sure you're a tech of some sort or do you just play one on the internet?:D

This Cabletech guy sounds like a real nerd. First he tells me I should use Google, when all I did was answer a question about a MCS power connector. Now on a thread about 403-470 XTS3000 radios working above 470, he has twice told the OP to buy a scanner. Who died & made him the chief of the radio police? The OP never asked about trunking, he never asked about obtaining software for free. He simply asked how to hex edit a radio he intends to buy to work above 470 mhz. Some people like to listen to local activity on a real radio because of louder rx audio, no intermod, & they don't need to monitor 3 or 4 bands at the same time. So what's up Cabletech? Not tall enough to be a real cop?

I think I had a formatting issue that didn't show the other half of the MCS 2000 pinout. I tried to edit but couldn't figure out how to do that so just quoted and corrected my own post

Pin 21 is External PTT, so grounding that pin will cause the radio to transmit.

I use pin 11 and Pin 4 (ground and Filtered Audio Out) to interface with a computer and it works great for audio.
