Motorola Mic OPP?

I found this in a junk yard. What kind of connector does this plug into?
Be cool if i could hook it up to my spectra
Also got a PA mic too that is pluged into a little connector then turns into a grey shilded wire with 4 little wires in that. For the PA id guess..
And im rather sure im posting this in the wrong area too:)

That is the old handset from the previous system. The connector is a custom connector that eventually connects to a spectra (conventional only) through a custom harness.

That's an Ackermann Handset. They were used on the old NOR radios, they plugged into the control head.

They still use this style of handset with the Astro Spectra radios.

Awesome find, they're rare!

I'm pretty sure I have the pinout kicking around here somewhere in a NOR system manual, I'll take a look.

This head has the regular hand-held mic. The motorcycle radios used a standard handset while cars got the Ackermann.

Wow that's a big honkin' console! Looks like they took the dash right off a bike and mounted it in a car :)

Not meaning to hijack but why did OPP change from roof antennas to trunklid antenna when they changed from NOR to Fleetnet?

They didn't.

The OPP antenna standard is as follows:

W/ Lightbar:
UHF 1/4 wave Sinclabs EX, on trunk.
VHF 1/4 wave Sinclabs EX, on roof behind lightbar.

W/O Lightbar:
UHF 1/4 wave Sinclabs EX, on trunk.
VHF 5/8 wave Sinclabs SVB1383, on trunk, rear of UHF.

There are two VHF styles for the no lightbar - one is a 5/8 wave SVB1383, the other is a 1/2 wave SVB1482. The 1383 is relativly narrow bandwidth -- roughly 4MHz. These were used on the NOR radios as they only needed 136-143MHz (in reality 136-140 for TX). The 1482 is a wide bandwidth antenna -- roughly 25MHz. These are usedon Fleetnet radios to cover the range of 136-160MHz (inputs for Range 3).

And in relation to the console above -- its in an ambulance.

Because radio installs are done by several companies in the Province, they don't *always* follow the standard.

So around 100 bucks for each cruser for the 2 antennas eh.. Then for the 1-3 millennium antennas on the roof

So if i can find a connector for this mic I could hook er into my spectra and get use from this?

Maybe that explains why I haven't seen a "1/4 wave VHF roof - 1/4 wave UHF trunk" cruiser around the GTA in a long time. Currently they all appear to be "1/4 wave UHF trunk - 5/8 wave VHF trunk", lightbar or not.

Speaking of the VHF antenna it doesn't look long enough to be 5/8 wave. It looks more like 1/2 wave one.

They're likely the half wave. The 5/8 wave (1383) has a narrow bandwidth, while the half wave (1482) is good for more or less 30MHz.
