Has anybody heard that Motorola is coming out with a Minitor 5? If so, Where can I find info about it?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just came back from the link to the Batboard thread and I must be in a parallel dimension.
I couldn't believe the amount of Minitor bashing going on. We've had no problems with either our II's or IV's outside of routine things like guys driving over them, using them to substitute for various handtools, etc.
My volunteer fd uses Minitor II's for our members. The officers have been upgraded to Minitor IV's. They've been great pagers for us. I was reluctant to accept the IV when I became a lieutenant but it's been a great little pager.
Like I said, never a day of problems with any of our Minitor's.

Yea, I saw that too. Minitor 3's were a nice upgrade from the two but sucked in my opinion. 4's are great, although updrades can always be made. My fire company got 4's, they were programmed wrong so they sucked, Once reprogrammed the correct way, there were no problems. It would be nice for them to use the 2 beeps on the new min 5.

Any one tell me are these pagers all programmed to have Sqeulch after they go off for a call? or can that be programmed to to do that. a real pain hearing that after they go off!!

My volunteer county has about 150 Minitor IV's, and we've had varied amounts of sucess with them. Some (like mine) have worked well for two years without a problem. Others have had problems from day one. Wierd.
We recently purchased 20 Minitor V's, but when they were delivered, all of the programming options were screwed up. We're waiting for the replacements to come in, along with the Minitor V programming cradle.

Well thats to be expected especially if its on a simplex channel. My 4 doesent do much better!

We've got two V's now, as well as IV's and a gang of II's. The guys who've got the V's havent voiced a single complaint yet!! Only complaint on the IV's was someone who soaked his in a snow bank and toasted the batteries. Thankfully AAA"s are available anywhere.

I'VE had them all from the 1 all the way to the 5, the minitor 2 was the best hands down, the new 5 is not bad, as far as picking up radio traffic, the minitor 1 blows them all away even simplex channels, I have also carried SHINWA and US ALERT pagers, did not like us alert but still have a Shinwa checkmate 3 I use as a spare not a bad little pager, I think everyone agrees Moto should have left the Minitor 2 alone.
When i carried one for work, i thouthgt that my Keynote got better reception than the Mintor 4's

I paid 322.00 for it! so, it arrives in its box the pager/charger was very dusty like it came from a warehouse so, I go to charge the pager and the charger kills my Battery!! so, Motorola sends me a new battery for free, and it kills that one too! I just got the pager back from repair if anyone needs somthing about their Minitor 5 phone numbers.. part numbers etc just ask!

The half dozen Minitor V's my Rescue Squad has seem to be okay so far. We voted to get a couple more last Tuesday. All the 4's we had were recording pagers, but the county dispatchers have a habit of sending the alert tones, unkeying, then sending our info about 10 secs later. Voila, nothing recorded. So now we save the money and just get plain jane Minitor V's.

Minitor 5 programming help
Is there a way to program the minitor 5 to alert for several different sets of tones on the same frequency? I have programmed mine with two pairs of tones and it won't activate. When I change the programming to std coding and use one set of tones it activates. I would like to do multiple pairs of tones on the same frequency. For example most of the pairs I want to do are an A-B pair. Station X has one pair station y has another. Is there a way to program this for one frequency on the same selector setting (A) for example?

YES, Thats how it's supposed to work, my best advice is to check with the guys at batlabs.com, they are big time moto junkies, ( it is a moto website) I am not 100% up on the software but it sounds like a protocal issue in the software set up, are you sure the tones are right ?
I know that what you want will work , My best friend uses a 5 on one frequency , has station 10 two -tones , station 5 tones and county group on that frequency and his works like a charm.

Something interesting...I dropped my work pager, a Minitor 5, in three feet of standing water. Took it out of the water, turned it off, and sat it in the dash of the bus with the heat blasting. That was over last summer, and it works perfect to this day.

Any way you want...
You can have the guy programming it to do whatever you want it to do....I have mine set to STAY OPEN after a page, but, without the "open squelch noise" normally associated with an open pager.
You can have it set up to stay open a couple of minutes and then CLOSE by itself.
You can have the A, B, C, D...buttons programmed to do different freqs or functions. (Alert, vibrate, both etc...)

We've got various models of them. Several guys can be standing in a group, dispatch will send out a page, some go off OK. The Minitor II's NEVER FAIL to go off and HEAR the message. With the other models, some have to grab them off their belt and hold them up & twist all around to hear the message after they open up. I just don't know WHY that happens....I have a sneaking suspicion that it involves the synthesized "internal workings" of the supposed newer, greater updated models!!!!!
