• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a NTN4734A charger and have some questions about it. I have recently purchased an aftermarket Ni-CD battery for. I put it in the charger and the charge light goes on and after a little while it turns off without going green.I then take it out and put it back in and then the standby light goes on. Anyone know what the hell is going on? Is it the charger?

Do you have another battery (hopefully a known good one) to test it with, to see if it behaves the same? Could be the charger, it's probably quite old but the battery could be bad too, I suppose. Is the charger new to you?

Charger is not new and all wiring inside seems good. The only other battery I have is a Metal Hydride battery that when it is in the cradle the "Not Chargeable" light flashes.

The standby yellow means its too hot to charge. That charger senses the voltage and temp of the battery. It could be that the green light is burnt out. The best charger I have found is the " Doughnut " style charger like this one. It does all 3 style radios Saber Jedi and XTS and NiCad NIMH .Lithium Ion... I had this before my Impress. I used it on that battery I sold with the radio.

The green lights up the lights cycle so it works... Idk, I'll call my local /\/\ dealer and see if they can take a look at itand also see if the batterys are good. If the charger is fubar, I'll just get another, their cheap enough...

The newer charger he's referring to is the NTN8831A, which will do all three types of battery, so if you eventually get a lithium-ion battery you'll be all set. The 8831 right now costs, used, a few bucks more than the 4734 but in the long run it would probably be worth it. The 8831 can be found on eBay all the time.
