    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a couple of Moto's P1225 hand held radios and need the adapter/cable assembly and software to do the programming.

Questions;
1. What is the latest version of the RSS software? This is the description of wat I already have now. It seems a littled dated (references to Windows 3.1 & '95) even though these are older radios;
MOTOROLA Radius 1225 Series Radio Service Software
Version 3.1 Release Build 2
Copyright (c) Motorola, 1996-1999
------------------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION:
This software is Version 3.0 of the 1225 Series RSS. It supports
the R1225 Repeater, and the M1225 and P1225 radios.
This release includes several improvements and fixes relative to the
original 1225 Series RSS.
2. Is the correct adapter assembly?;
Programming cable for Motorola P1225 + Mobile Radio NEW - eBay (item 350145309018 end time Jun-24-09 03:27:06 PDT)
3. If that is the correct assembly, how/where is the radio powered? Is another cable/adapter needed?

I have been to batlabs, but I would perfer to just buy the needed cables etc.

I think there is a version 3.2, but don't worry about it, I have been using ver 3.1 for many years with no problem. That cable appears to be fine, provided it works. You hook up the power wires, red and black, to a power supply set to 7-9vdc, or to the portable battery. Make sure the battery is charged.

Yes indeed, you have what you need. I've been using one of those ebay cables from that vendor for a few years. They work on every radio they claim. I tested mine on nearly all applicable radios and it worked every time. For programming the P1225 there is a connector for a 9V battery that powers that radio during programming or you can connect to a power supply, your choice.

What are the differences between V3.1 and V4? Any real improvements or bug fixes?? Any idea when V4 was released?

Seems like Version 4 has been around a while. It runs in XP with no problems. Can't tell you about any differences since 4 is the only version I've ever had.

Actually, upon further thought, I did have Version 3.2, but it wouldn't load into XP. So, possibly, V4 was an XP upgrade. I can't swear to that though.

Your master site
The last copy I downloaded off MOL had a folder for Win95 and XP. The readme in the Win95 folder said 3.2 build 7. So V4 must be strictly for XP. No readme in its folder.
