Hi everybody. I'm very sorry if this is in the wrong category, but I am looking for some info on using a Motorola radio to scan/nas on p25 phase 2, but RX/TX on UHF/Vhf. (After doing some digging, it looks like the APX series will do both?)
We live in a very rural area and frequently use UHF/ VHF to communicate amongst ourselves privately due to bad cell coverage. However, I also work for a, let's call it, very, very large bureaucracy that uses unencrypted P25 phase 2.
I would like to use one radio to both communicate on the UHF/vhf band, but only scan/nas on the p25 phase 2 Network. My very basic understanding of the dtrs system is that I would need either a code plug or system key, as well as permission from said Large bureaucracy, if I wanted to transmit on the p25 Network. I am fine just listening/nas on the private radio and using the issued apx6000 radio while I am at work to communicate on the network, it would just be handy for my fiance to be able to listen to what's going on at work while I'm out all night, and for me to be able to listen if something big happens while I'm off.
Using one radio seems to be The logical solution rather than trying to carry my UHF/ VHF radio plus a p25 scanner around. (Plus cool factor, duh.) It is my understanding that I can NAS the dtrs system without a key or code plug or permission. This very large bureaucracy will almost certainly never give out code plugs or keys or permission for a private radio to transmit on the network.
My apologies if I am misinformed in any way. I am very new to the dtrs side of radio.
