Motorola PR400 Erro

Sorry if I forgot something or gave to much info, I am new to this Forum.

So I have 4 Morotola PR400 radios given to me about 4 years ago from a security company that was upgrading to new radios at the time. I work for a private small PI firm and we have only needed 2 radios for the contracts we have due to only the OIC needs one. This coming year we got 3 new contracts and 2 will require the use of all 4 and more later. I know little about radios them self by I am good with computers and electronics them self, I set up the Fire dept pagers and reprogram them a lot. So in the Fire house we had a CPS program 5.08 on the computer here and I turn on the radio and plug it in with the USB cable ordered from Ebay kawamall and use Com9. When I click read it gives me Error 16389.

This I have try:
Try restart computer
Pull plug out a little
Turn on plug in then open program and in reverse.
uninstall re install driver CD shows com9 in device manager

Any ideas??

There are different CPS programs for each family of radios. Your PR400's require the Commercial Series CPS, part number RVN4191.

The info you gave on your CPS is simply the revision level, and not what group of radios it is associated. Look in Help --> About and see if you can locate the info about the CPS.

If you are using a CPS not intended for your radios, you will never get it to work.

You also said you have a cable you ordered from Kawa, but didn't say which radios the cable is for. Again, it has to be for the PR400's (Commercial Series Portables.)

I just checked and it is the commercial series software I am using.

I do not see a part number as you put it where is that located?

It is a cp200 radio cable that we had at the fire house for our event radios but online the 200 and pr400 are under the same list if I read it right??

The PR400 use's the same program and cable as the CP200. Re check your com port thru device manager.

Some times the program does not like to use com ports above 5.

Re assign the com port to a lower number but do not use com 1. (2,3,4,5)

The current (and probably final) revision of the Commercial Series CPS is R05.18 issued June or July 2013. It was the last revision before the product line was EOL'd. The last few revisions of this CPS dealt exclusively with narrowbanding access.

OK Cabletech I moved it to COM2 and made that the location on the program still same error code.

Steve I will have to see if my fire house has that R on the computer or if we can get it from one of the other dept in the area. There is no way to know what one is on the radio??

I was typing in a semi dark room and missed the 1 and hit the 0 instead, I did mean to say ver 5.18 as the current.

secretsteve, if you truly have ver 5.08, then you will need to upgrade to the ver 5.18. Does your department have a Motorola account? If it does, the software is still available.

If your department does not have an account, go here and set one up.

So I have set up a account as I wait for another freind to check with his dept. if he has the software.

If you have an active account and have 'signed' all the agreements, log in to your account, at the top of the page, high lite buying center, go to search catalog, then enter the part number, click on search.

That will bring up all listings for that part number. In this case at the bottom of the page it will show REV 5.17. Now click on details and it will show the cost as $265. This is for a three year period. Now in quantity, enter 1 then click on add to cart.

Once you process the order, give it a couple of hours, then relog to your account high lite resource center. click resource center then go down to software>two way radio and find CP-PR portables and click on it.

This will bring up all versions of the software. Click on the first one, (it will say 5.18 Jun2013) this is the current version.

Save the zip file to your Motorola folder, then load from there.

You can find other software the same way.

I gave you the part number in Post #2 - RVN4191.

When you search in the Buying Center, use "Begins with" instead of "Exact match." You will have much better results.

Nobody said you were. We are trying to help you. Providing the same answer twice in a short thread isn't productive.

Try this: Go to Resource Center --> Resource Center --> Software --> PR400 --> CP-PR Portables and CM-PM Mobiles. If you do not see Commercial Series CPS R05.18, then you will have to call the Customer Service number and explain the situation. Since the product line is discontinued, the CPS no longer shows in the Buying Center but it is visible to those of us who have already purchased it in the Resource Center. I am not sure how Motorola will make that available to you for purchase. Customer Service should be able to give you some guidance here.

Motorola Online is not the most user friendly purchasing system. They hide a lot of stuff so that you can only see what they want you to see and what you have paid for when it comes to software. Many others have had similar problems, and they all report that calling Customer Service is the only way to solve the issue.

Sorry Steve I did not mean it in a mean way should have put a LOL or HAHA on the end been a long day-night at work a lot of PD and new crap going on. I try your other way did not find it. I will have to call Friday when I am off. Thanks again for the help.

BTW if you know some one gave me a Motorola HT1250 radios and he has the software to program can that be set to talk with the PR400 I have or does not???

Ht1250 and Pr 400 use different cps software. So no cps for the Ht1250 will not program your Pr400.

Sorry I mean talk as in use the same frequency, he has the program to do the program and said he set it to what ever I want free for the HT1250 and then when I get the PR400 I can set it to the same as the HT1250 so they talk person to person not program.

Also another one question I know your all saying 5.18 but why on the sticker on the radio its self does it say R03.00.01???

If both radios are the same band, then yes, they can be programmed to talk to each other, presuming you've got a licensed frequency to use. (Not being the radio police here, just giving you complete info.)

The CPS revision level is totally separate from the radio's revision level and have nothing to do with each other.

Is there any way cheap to find out what the frequency the PR400 is on by chance this way if I go with the HT I can just set one Ch to talk to the PR400??

The only way to know what frequency is in the radio is to read it with the CPS.

Save yourself and everyone else a headache and bring it to a radio shop for programing. Does not sound like you need to constantly change it's programming so a one time visit to a radio shop should do it.
