To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi guys, first post so go easy on me.

I have searched and can't find what I'm looking for so apologies if it's already been covered.

I have recently bought a Motorola R7 mainly because we use a very basic Motorola system at work just simplex but with basic privacy, to my knowledge motorolas privacy is proprietary so I had to have a Motorola radio but I also wanted to play radio at work as well as be able to monitor the company next door who we work very closely with and being able to do so gives me a head start on my job, this company use hytera radios with no encryption, just simplex dmr.

The radio dealer supplied me with the cable and cps to program the radio and ive successfully managed to get it to work with my company radios with no trouble at all.

The problem I'm having is that when I've programmed the radio to use my local ham repeater the radio won't unmute when it's receiving traffic. Now I'm no stranger to DMR I have 3 other radios that I've setup just fine and work with no problems but this one has me stumped. I have checked, double and 100 checked the information is correct, frequency, colour code, talk groups and time slots. Ive followed what information I can in programming Motorola radios for ham repeaters looking for anything I might have missed.

I have tried transmitting on my anytone radio that I know works but the Motorola just gives me a flashing channel busy light and no audio and when I transmit on the same talk group on the Motorola the anytone gives me a flashing busy light with no audio, the repeater GB7MR supports a parrot group and when I do a test transmission the repeater comes back to me, I can see its there but get no audio.

Its the same with the company I want to monitor, I can monitor on my anytone radio, I've been using digi monitor because it shows me all the details but when I program them into the motorola I can see the traffic is there, I can hear it on the anytone but no audio comes through on the Motorola.

Its not the end of the world if I can't get it working with the company next door but one of the main reasons for the purchase was to work with amateur repeaters. I know it can be done I just feel like I'm missing something silly.

I should add even though basic privacy is used for my works radios it's definitely not active across the rest of the codeplug.

Any help, advice, tips or tricks are very gratefully recieved.

Many thanks in advance.

Not knowing anything about the Motorola R7, (but being the DMR expert for my club) the direction I will point you in is look to setting up a "receive list" for it, since it probably does not have "digital monitor" like the Anytone (where the Anytone will lsten to all traffic on the channel). Look in the CPS to program in the talkgroup(s) you want to listen to, that is where I would start.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I initially had it setup with RX lists but was told by a credible source that to transmit and recieve on a single channel the RX list wasn't necessary. I was under the impression the RX list was essential but from what I'm told its for setting up a channel for monitoring multiple talkgroups then would need to switch to the active talk group to transmit. Regardless I have tried it both ways.

A RX list is NOT required for a Motorola radio. I have several, & they work 100% without the list. OTOH, some CCR’s do require the list to hear anything.

Thank you for the reply and confirmation. As I said before I was under the impression it was required until told otherwise and it makes sense. But I have tried it both ways. I cant help but think I'm missing something daft.

There is an option in CPS to ignore clear (non encrypted transmissions), is it possible you have that checked

I seem to remember that option, I'm not sat in front of the computer so can't quote the exact wording but something like "ignore clear voice" definitely worth checking though.

There is also a selection for Open Voice Channel Mode (OVCM RX). You can try that.
I did give that a try but I've tried so many things with it I've lost track of where exactly in the codeplug I tried it so I'll give it another go. Thank you.

I have a XPR-7550 with a work radio CPS codeplug. Whenever I want to use the radio for DMR I have to reflash the radio with my DMR codeplug. Reason being the DMR ID is blocked from the work repeater. And even if simplex I think the other work radios won't listen to it given my DMR ID from my radio. As well without a good DMR ID it will never work on any Ham DMR systems so the work ID won't work on DMR.

I'm willing to bet the reason you're not hearing anything is because your radio's ID is not the same as your ham DMR ID...that would definitely explain that behavior. Oh, sorry; forgot you're in the UK-- Behaviour...Behavior....

EDIT: Just noticed the guy right above me already said the same thing.

I still bet that's your problem, though...

Not around here. There are plenty of guys on the local ham repeater using their work DMR radio with their work ID. The repeater owner knows they only have a work radio, & allow the work ID to pass. Maybe different where you live.

But, radioid.net ID wont work in work radio. When I put my ID in a Cap+ codeplug, I got field error. I dont remember the exact number, but has to be less than seven digits. I took out all the Cap+ info, but havent tried to re-enter radioid.net ID. I will try tomorrow......
It would be nice if a personality could accommodate a different ID, almost like giving the radio a different personality :🤷:

Like I said, some of the guys with work radios are using their work radio ID’s on ham DMR repeaters. Usually a 5 digit ID # starting with 5. The repeater owner allows the work ID # to work on their ham repeaters.
