• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anyone have any experience with these? I recently got one brand new for my Xpr 6550. Not all that impressed with the fit. For the price was expecting better. Anyone else have any of their cases?

Are you sure what you got was a new one for the 6550 and not a 7550? The 6550 has been out of production for quite some time unless they have old stock left.

Yep it says right on it for 6550. It’s 5706RC-1 firefighters radio holder.

I know it's not the same but I recently got a Motorola swivel holster for my 6550 and I am not too thrilled about the fit either. It seems loose and it doesn't seem to fit the radio just right. Maybe it's the new leather stiffness or maybe it's just the weird design of the holster. It's possible that since the 6550 has a weird design the holster just doesn't sit right. Can you post a picture of it?

I meant a picture of the radio in the holster. So I can see the kind of fit it has

Given the keypad position, I would agree it is not for a 7550. That is a pretty poor fit.

That holster with the 6550 in it almost reminds me of the "universal" radio holsters. The straps aren't secure on the radio and it looks like it could fly out at any minute.

It's made by Boston Leather not Motorola. Generally speaking, I have been very happy with Motorola cases.
Are you using a slim battery or extended battery with the 6550? That might have something to do with the fit.

I think it’s extended. But ya maybe with some break in time it will get better. I had a leather gun holster like that. Well I know it’s not made by Motorola but If u go to motorola website and order a case for 6550 this is what you get.
