The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have never had to deal with this issue personally but I'm curious about something. Are missing pixels on a radio display a sign of a bad LCD or is it something else? I mean will simply replacing the display solve the issue?

Generally yes. On radios like the Astro 25 line, I've yet to see just a few pixels go out (usually the entire display does something funky). Now I did have an XTS3000 that had a pixel or two drop out.

Depends. Usually with a lot of MTS2000 and XTS3000 radios, due to a bad bonding agent the displays lose pixels because the flex on the parallel connector between the display interface and the literal LCD module fails causing loss of rows and/or pixels. IIRC this was covered in an SRN by Motorola, in this instance replacing the display fixes the issue.

On the Astro25 (XTS2500/XTS5000) the display can go completely out or sometimes it can be missing a whole row or more. It is usually a torn flex if a row or two is missing. In either case, the display has to be replaced.

Thanks guys! I have 3- XTS3000s. VHF/UHF/800. All are in excellent working order with no display issues.
I know it can happen at anytime so if it's as simple as replacing an LCD screen, I want to be ready with a replacement or two just in case.

The XTS3000 display is no longer available from Motorola. I have not seen a Chinese vendor make a replacement yet. Your best bet may be to purchase some more XTS3k's in any band, the display is the same for every band.

I doubt that it is new, the film over the display is missing. Chances are these are pulls from surplus. Still a good deal, that is below dealer cost.
