• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just purchased a Saber and am wondering if a convertacom doubles as a charger? I'm guessing it does. Also was wondering where I can find one, I saw some on ebay but without power harness and speaker, or if someone has the harness and speaker... Also, does anyone have pictures of convertacoms installed?

Yes, they charge the radio while letting you use it at the same time, unlike a desktop charger. If you haven't seen this already, the Repeater Builder website has an excellent article about Sabers and towards the bottom, there are several PDFs of the Saber Vehicular Adapter (SVA, as Motorola officially called it) manuals. Thanks, was actually just looking at that including the wiring diagram. I have seen Convertacoms(NTN5487B) on ebay but they do not have a power harness so will have to find that somewhere else. A purchase though will not happen for a little while do to funds, lol, but is what I am looking for. Thankfully ones on ebay are cheap enough so shouldn't be a problem. If anyone has a power harness let me know, even a speaker. A lot I can find online,

No problem. Just keep looking. I was able to get a convertacom for my HT600 complete with harness, speaker, bracket and microphone all in decent shape for about $10. I know it's not the same but it's related and of the same era. There's definitely deals out there.

Yea, I just bought a Saber 1 for forty bucks in almost perfect shape and original case, and now a charger for 19 bucks... So slowly but surely I'm building up the stuff I need. Next will be a convertacom, but if I can't find one with wire harness I'm getting a Speaker/Mic.

Oh ok, so the basic four pin computer power supply harness will work. that should be easy enough... I am mostly interested in using it to charge,if i want, speakers are on ebay, and already have antenna.

Tom is that you, lol. Since you sold me that saber I was able to purchase a speaker mic and a charger, both for 20 dollars plus shipping. I actually just won a convertacom on ebay for 3 dollars said to be in working condition with mounting bracket no speaker or wiring harness though.
