• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello! I just picked up a used SL7550 today and I am programming it with CPS16. I know enough to get in trouble when it comes to commercial radios, but I can not figure this one out.

I have created Zones in my CPS and write them to my SL7550. Once on the 7550 the cannels and Frequencies I programmed are there but they are all in a list, basically channelized. I have no zones, even though I created the zones in the CPS.

When I go to menu and scroll there is no option for zone. I programmed button P1 to be set up for zone selection. It is there and it says Zone but it doesn't do anything when I press it. If I change the command of P1 it works, so I know its not a button issue.

No sure if anyone has ever run into this or not.

Another note it doesn't charge with a standard USB Micro cable and block, so I will have to purchase one of those as well.

Overall a good little radio, but a frustrating day for me in the sense of programming only to be disappointed (haha).

In my experience the radios are picky about the power source for charging, but it is entirely possible to use a non-Motorola OEM charger. If the radio is unhappy with one brick, try a different one. I never did figure out a rhyme or reason to it; just had to use trial and error. It’s also possible to get an external charger for the BT90 batteries that the radio uses (not the official drop-in for the 7550). The Motorola part number is SPN5394A. $7 on eBay right now.

Glad that was it! It's tripped up numerous folks in the past, probably because those particular checkbox functions aren't immediately obvious.

I'm on the Richmond Metro talkgroup a good bit!
