Both the Motorola press release and this article from RadioResource magazine say that Motorola has contracts with 16 customers, but they only mention the State of Maryland and Bowling Green (KY) Municipal Utilities.

There has been a system installed in Loudoun County Virginia for about a year now. It has created a problem for the surrounding counties as they couldn't talk to them anymore until a few channels were set aside for the standard P25 format to allow inter agency communications.

Here we take one step forward at the push of the radio company and two steps back for radio interoperability for the region. It also forces everyone to look at obtaining new radios. Guess who is making out on this upgrade to better communications?

The system you mention uses Motorola's proprietary "X2-TDMA" protocol, which meant that other manufacturer's radios were not compatible with the system (hence the FDMA talkgroups). This press release talks about them shipping systems that meet the official P25 Phase II TDMA standard, which all manufacturers have access to. These Phase II TDMA systems retain the ability to have FDMA talkgroups to support legacy P25 equipment. So I'm not quite sure what your point ultimately is, but it sounds like a bit of a rant to me.

We just got the full Phase-II features with the R06 firmware uplift for the APX family.

I am hearing minor rumors that the scheduled Q4-2011 deployment of the FNE-side of the equation might get pushed until Q1-2012...

Before you bash Motorola, have a look at Wisconsin's WISCOM system. The system is EF Johnson. Guess which brand of radio the state grant money is only good for ? Yup.

Incorrect. The grant money is only good for radios approved on the system. There are currently 3 brands approved on the system. WISCOM is doing testing this month and will more than likely have 3 or 4 more brands approved and available for grant money in the next few months
