If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Motorola Solutions LEX L11 update to Android 11?

I am wondering if anyone knows what the update process is for the Motorola Solutions LEX L11 smartphone? Can it be updated by the user like other Android devices or does it need to be sent to Motorola? I purchased a second-hand device which is running Android 9 and wish to upgrade it to Android 11.

If this needs to be moved to a different forum please move it. This device seems to be an oddball in the smartphone space because of its PTT features with APX connectivity and control. I tried to find the best forum, but I know that doesn't mean I did.

Thanks

If there is a approved version it should update via your provider just like other phones. I dont know the approved verison on the 11 and mine is in my truck right now.

I’m also interested in it. Wanted to try and see if I liked the L11 before getting a cell plan for it.

When you go into software update it gives me “your software is up to date” and it’s running on android 7 I believe

The Motorola documentation for it indicates it should run Android 11. But when I go to check for updates it says that it is up to date and the last installed security update is from like May of 2021. My settings indicate the phone is on Android 9. I need to run an app for work that requires Android 11, hence the question. I am running on Verizon, but when I put in my Mint mobile SIM I got the same result when checking for updates. I'm not too familiar with the normal Android update process.

@FKimble Thanks! I was hoping that wouldn't be misunderstood. I was speaking of all the different forums here on RR.

Have you tried a hard restart? Power off, take the battery out, hold the power button down for 10 seconds, reinstall the battery, power on the phone. That's how I ended up with Android 11, I got a corrupted update (even though it said "Update Successful"). It required a trip to Depot to get a working update.

@ME801 I will try those steps. How did you know you got a corrupted update? What did the trip to Depot cost?

After the update it would not connect to cell towers or wifi networks. It would show connected, but could to make/receive calls or data. The cost thru a dealer was $25 to diagnose, then a total of $500 (they said it needed a new frame also).

I just grabbed mine from the truck and checked the software and I'm running Android 11. Its on First Net and Verizon but not sure which did the update. Think it was on Verizon Sim when it got the update.

I wonder if I could get a prepaid Verizon sim to do it; something as cheap as possible. I would like to avoid sending it off to depot.

How much did that cost? I’d hate to depot a device I paid <$200 for..
I don't remember since it needed a front screen also.
As JeepsandRadio's said a prepaid Ver SIM may do it. My LEX had a FirstNet SIM when I got the corrupted update.

I'm in the same boat, I would make my Lex my primary phone if I could get it onto a newer OS.

With a Motorola MyView account, you can download - "LEX L11 R40.34.10 Firmware Update File" - which was released on 12/24/2023. There are instructions online for upgrading your LEX L11n yourself, I believe via the SD card. This should give you Android 11 and bring all of the Motorola LEX specific apps and system options current.

But why do that Android 14 is on my Pixel and most Android-based devices are at 13 or 14 these days.
