• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

OK, so I have a Spectra VHF low power with A9 control head. It was working fine until it was shorted out, and now it displays Error 8/10, then fail 1/90 when I turn it off, then back on. Well, the 8/10 error is showing because the PA board got completely fried, but I know the radio can still work without that board. So now I'm trying to find out why it displays fail 1/90 and I have taken the ENTIRE radio apart and have found nothing wrong with it. I checked all the connections and made sure the control head / radio were both getting power, and I also can't get my computer to read the radio in programming anymore. The control head displays "programming" when I try to read the codeplug, but it just gives me error codes not allowing me to read the codeplug. I also checked the programming cable and all conections, plus the battery in the RIB and everything was good. So I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with the command board, and that it will have to be replaced.

What do you think???

Thanks, Alex

"shorted out"? What exactly do you mean by that? You can correct the 08/10 error by modifying the codeplug to turn the PA off. The 01/90 means that the head is not communicating with the radio, which could be cause by a million different things.

Shorted out as in both power wires touched while it was plugged in, and there was no fuse on the cord. I'm not worried about the 8/10 error right ow because its not causing any problems. I already know "Fail 1/90" is general hardware faliure, but it can also mean that the command board needs to be replaced. ALL connections are good in the radio. I spent a TON of time taking the entire radio apart and putting it back together.
