• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I may have one of those, just replaced it with a W4 Astro version. What questions did you have about it's operation?

Thanks in advance for the help Spectra model D43KMA7JA7BK

1. the plug at the back of the radio is that where you program it from ?

2. do i have to find an adapter from that plug in order to plug in my speaker?

3. if 1 and 2 are yes where could i get these cables for cheap as I am disabled and on a tight budget. I could not find the right cables on ebay. I am only 38 but due to diabeties i cannot see to make my own.

4. is there a special tool i need to take the screws out as they almost look round

5. from what i read the front control head comes off, but i do not see how, does it?

Thanks again

1: Yes

2: Yes, that is called the "accessory port". The speaker plug comes ut of the connector plugged into that, as well as the ignition lead, which is required to be connected to 12v + in order for the radio to power on. This is a standard part of the radio package.

3: eBay is full of cheap accessory connectors. If you need a programming cable as well as the speaker/ignition dongle, you can actually get these in one assembly. For programming you will need a RIB box as well.

If you just want the speaker connector alone, see below.

Speaker Ignition Cable for Motorola Spectra New | eBay

4: Which screws do you want to remove? The Spectra case uses Torx (star) and Allen bolts. You can get a multi tip screwdriver with removable tips that fit these.

5: The front face/head is removed by removing the two Allen bolts on each side of the front of the face. The faceplate pulls off, and it is electrically connected to the body of the radio by a interface board, which can also be pulled off the unit by hand. Once removed, you can even separate the two using a used Spectra remote kit that can be found around $25-40 on eBay.

The radio covers have Torx T15 screws, look for a T15 bit or screw driver.
The screws securing the control head are Metric 2,5 hex.
