Motorola STX 821

Does anybody know if the Motorola STX821 can be programmed in receive only mode.

Can it be programmed on a trunk system for receive only mode,What do I need.

control channels
system id
connect tone
frequencies

What is the freq coverage of these radios

I have bought two with key pads in GREAT shape real cheap and wanted to put them to use.

yes guys i have trunk trackers but did not want these to just sit around

does anybody on the list have programming capabilities

or know of a good place

I called a couple of places and they either want 97.00 dollars
(chicago com) or they dont have the software any longer.

any help would be appreciated

STX on system

If you are not an authorized user for the system then nobody in their right mind would program the radio for you. Short of removing a component the radio will affiliate. If you do remove the component it begins to act screwy on larger systems....missed calls scan delays ..going deaf for moments etc.

Once again the STX is pretty much useless compared to a scanner. And when you add limited scan capability, weight and then go back and also look at cost you are better off with a scanner.

You would need the system key as well and no shop will program the radio without authorization from the system owner/administrator authorization.

Also the radio only has a 6 talkgroup scan list...pretty poor scanner choice as well.

Thanks For All The Responses Guys Im Having Both Radios As We Speak Programmed By A Dealer On Conventional Receive Only Frequencies With Pl's And Dpl's And Tx Inhibited
And He Said It Can Be Done And Is Legall !!!!!!!!!

Like I Said I Have Plenty Of Trunk Trackers And Scanners But Nothing Beats The Receive Of A Motorola Radio.i Have Motorola Ht1000's Set Up For Ham Radio And Cpd
Receve Only Stuff Uhf And Vhf I Also Use Motorola Mts2000's Vhf And Uhf For Ham
Use And Police And Fire Receieve Only Channels.

I Used To Live In Los Angeles And Was A Fire Explorer With The Los Angeles City Fire
Department And They Used The Stx 821 Radio With Full Keypads.when I Saw Those Things I Got Hooked On Them. I Would Walk Around The Station House With It In My Hand For The Whole 24 Hour Shift. The Guys Started Calling Me Stixxxs And This Is How I Got Into The Hobby.so I Got My Hands On Two Brand New Like Condition Stx 821 Radios With The Full Key Pads And Dont Want Them To Go To Waste.the Radio Pretty Much Will Be Used At Work And At Home.when Im In Public I Use My 246t.

Sorry For The Long Email But From Some Of The Emails I Got Direct Made Me Make It Clear Why I Want The Radios Programmed And Make Sure Some Of You Dont Think Their Are Other REASONS. Trunk System No!!!!!!!! Conventional Yes!!!!!!!

Programming for conventional receive is a no brainer and legal. You were questioning on programming a trunked system. Its obvious that you didn't get all that you were looking for.

My BC 246T has better sound than a STX!

I like the sound out of my 246 better also, but the STX does blow it away as far as reception goes. I also get better reception on my STX in the car than I do with my BC780 with an 800Mhz antenna attached to it.
