• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not sure about channel capacity, but it is a trnking model. However it will do conventional repeaters.

Firstly I think you mean the XTS series... :)

Yes the XTS series can do conventional, trunking both type I, Type II, Hybrids, and 3600 KBPS Digital Trunking. They come in VHF Hi, UHF, 800/900 MHz, and the XTS5000 I believe also can do 700 MHz, and does 9600 KBPS ASTRO 25 digital trunking, and conventional digital.

Milf,

Baltimore Co. FD up until 3 years ago used STX radios. Then they slowly started to phase them out. Now the whole County exept for the eastside uses MTS 2000s. But now the County is phasing in XTS 5000s. So we have the old radios. The old new radios. And the new new radios. If this sounds confusing to you, it does to all the FFs on the street to.

STX series

If you are inquiring about the STX the later models where the 821 series with 1.0, 1.1 etc GPL or GPS controllers. They could do a total combination of 96-98 systems or conventional channels. That is not a misprint...90+ systems at 16 talkgroups to a system. Also depending on the version could do mutli-pl, repeat-direct etc. Some of the middle series such as the REL versions had a MODE option... now the downside. These units unless you have the smaller battery are bricks. They are old having been discontinued back in the 90s. They cannot scan conventional and they only scan 5-6 talkgroups per system. Also many of these units cannot follow a mixed / narrow control channel scheme. On the plus side old or not, they where built, they are readily available today. The later versions did Type II, TYPE i and conventional while earlier versions did Type 1 and conventional. The controller board version is the most important thing to have.

In Harris County, Texas Pct.4 still uses STX's for our Type II system. I don't know why, I'm sure they have the money to at least get MTX 8000 B7 models.
