Silent Key
I had an opportunity to test drive a BCD325P2 this week. I programmed various systems and assigned the system sites a quick key. In some cases, I programmed several systems in a single quick key (i.e. different systems/sites within a single county all share a "common" quick key value). I've been listening to activity on my state P25 (phase 2) system for a few days now and also have Pro96Com running. Activity on the system has been pretty steady over the last few days.
This afternoon, I manually programmed my county system with it's single active control channel frequency and a single talkgroup I was testing something out on. I set that system to ID Scan and assigned it the same quick key as the state system site for my county.
Been listening for a few hours now and noticed that the state P25 system appear to go nearly entirely silent. I could clearly see there was activity via Pro96Com.
Out of curiosity, I then deleted the manually programmed county Motorola system and viola! The state system is now being heard again.....
So - something odd is going on with this programming in that it seems the programming of a Motorola system is affecting the reception of the P25 system.
I'm pretty sure I've (off and on) seem similar issues on my 436 where trying to simultaneously scan systems of different types adversely affect other systems -- typically, P25 Phase 2 systems being the most badly affected. When I saw this on the x36 radios some time ago, it seemed to me that something in the programming or memory buffers of the radio were likely not being cleared causing some system reception to fail.
One final thing - the manually programmed Motorola system I added is really a 2nd instance of the system that was already programmed with all talkgroups. That instance of the system is under a different quick key. The reason I added the system again manually was to test monitoring of one specific talkgroup on the system and adding the system again with that single talkgroup was the quickest, easiest way to monitor just that one talkgroup.
Anyway -- has anyone else seen anything like this?
