Motorola System Saber Serial Number Tags?

I have a mystery here. I have a collection of Motorola Saber and Systems Saber radios from various model years and sources.

The serial number tags in some cases are on a black background with white lettering, but mostly a white background with black lettering, Now I find some with a white background and blue color lettering, except Motorola in brown and model number in red.

Is there a rhyme or reason to Motorola's inconsistency in serial number tags?

Yes I have seen some Depot tags that have an R for reconditioned, but none of the ones I have seem to indicate and depot related tag change.

Most of the Systems Sabers that we used to service at our shop had black labels with green writing. If we sent radios to the depot, they would sometimes come back with white labels with black writing.

I just pulled one from my stock that has green lettering on the black background. Some of these are federal radios the others non federal. I don't know if it makes a difference. I also notice the graphics vary quite a bit.

Not sure. Ours were federal.
