• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

How do Motorola Type 1 fleet calls work ?

I monitor dispatch of a public utility system on subfleet 000-1.

Both base and mobiles are heard on that same subfleet.

From time to time things switch to 000-0 subfleet.

I hear only the base station side of the conversation on 000-0.

The responding mobile is heard on 000-1.

Is this normal behavior for the all-call function? Assuming dispatchers are activating it for some unknown reason.

Scanner is BC780XLT.

I think that is the way it works. The dispatcher calls on the -0 subfleet, which all the other subfleets can hear, but they can't hear each other. One mixed system local to me was doing that with 3 subfleets, but they seem to have converted to Type II groups. Now they can use "multi-select".

Thanks Dave.

I have never heard a 0 subfleet used before and wasn't sure how it worked.

Didn't know if it is just a "one-sided" announcement or supposed to be a patch of the two subfleets together.

A "Subfleet 0" announcement is as described by DaveH, and will only be heard on one of the system repeaters. A Type I patch transmission can be heard on each of the subfleets that is included in the patch, and will be heard on as many system repeaters as there are subfleets in the patch.

And thank you DaveNF2G.

To further clarify.

When dispatch "announces" on subfleet 0, it is the only user of subfleet 0.

Listening subfleets would not switch to it to talk back to dispatch.

Yeah, for a while this bugged the heck out of me. Playing with Type I block sizes, trying to get the sizecode right, often -0 subfleets would come up when they should not have. In this case myself and another guy tried just about every sizecode, but nothing would get rid of the -0. Eventually, after watching on Trunker and listening at the same time, it became obvious what was going on.

I knew I had a good map. B0-S14.

It always worked and made sense since the power company was sole user of the system and really only needs 1 fleet at this site.

Only 3 or 4 of the 15 subfleets are ever used.

Of course, no way would there be the resultant number of users.

It was just out of nowhere that this 000-0 stuff started popping up.

Another weird thing I have noticed on this system.

A random private call radio id (7xxxxxx) "blips" up. Never really locks on to a radio to radio call. Paging?
