If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello.
Few days ago a friend of mine asked me about his Motorola VX-2100 mobile radio, that he uses for Taxi. He told me that problem is about Select 5 signaling and that radio dont transmit signaling tone every time when he do PTT! I tried radio my self and situation is that select 5 tone can be sent only after about 1 second of pause between TX! Let me explain a bit more: 3 digit select 5 signaling code is sent at the beginning of every TX just for the PTT ID purpose. When you finish TX you have to wait about 1 second and do PTT again and only then radio will send select 5 signal again. If PTT is pressed quickly than that 1 second, it does transmit but not sending PTT ID, only "normal" carrier with MIC audio.
I have searched thru all the programing software, but could not find setings about that. There is some setings in the "select 5 common section" about pre-time but that dont solve the problem.
Maybe it can not do it diferently anyway?
Thanks.

I have zero experience with select 5 signaling so my answer may be a moot point and I will only give you a generalization.

There are many types of signaling available on modern radios and they all do different functions. One of these is PTT ID where data that indentifies the transmission goes out every time. I think this is what you are looking for.

Another function of signaling is to preform what is known as Sel Call (Selective Calling). With Sel Call you use the ID data to open up another radio to receive a call. When that happens then the channel is connected for a conversation. Back and forth takes place without anymore needs of the signaling data due to a timer that keeps the channel open for this purpose. Once the timer expires then the radios revert to a muted condition and signaling will have to be resent to contact that radio again.

In a nutshell it sounds like you are using Sel Call with a very short reset timer. To do PTT ID, the radio will have to be set up completely different.
