• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

"Motorola Solutions Inc. won a $764.6 million verdict after a federal jury in Chicago said Chinese rival Hytera Communications Corp. stole the company’s critical trade secrets for two-way radio technology. Hytera pledged to appeal."

From a different source..

" Remarkably, after steadfastly denying any wrongdoing in the years prior to trial, Hytera admitted during trial that in fact it has thousands of Motorola Solutions confidential documents in its possession and that even today some of its products still contain stolen Motorola Solutions source code."

Objective: eliminate a competitor by catching them with their pants down reaching into our cookie jar.
Mission accomplished.

Hytera USA is done. Even with appeals, they'll spend years and millions going to court, and they'll lose. This is a landmark verdict, the climate of Chinese companies stealing IP from US corporations is front and center.

I remember a few years back a Chinese Motorola engineer was caught at Chicago O'hare with a one way ticket back to China and a laptop and few dozen flash drives worth of goodies. Bet that was the start of it.

So I guess this also means that the Harris Momentum platform is also dead in the water?! They essentially rebrand Hytera for it as I understand.

Curious, "caught" by who?

Customs doing routine check found $30K and confidential documents according to an article I found after a quick Google search. Happened in '07, sentenced to 4 years in '12.

Usually Hytera comes out with a press release about their appeal plans but so far no word from them.
I wonder how many countries Motorola filed in other than Germany and the US? I remember when Lindows was getting sued by Microsoft, they filed in a number of countries to tie them up.

Will be an interesting time at the IWCE dealers meeting if the meeting and or show isn't canceled by corona virus fears/spread or the dealers not getting paid to come because Hytera is out of business.

I find the text in red interesting...

Trade Secret and Copyright Case at Federal District Court in Illinois

On February 14, 2020, a jury in the Northern District of Illinois found that Hytera misappropriated one or more of Motorola Solutions’ DMR-related trade secrets and infringed one or more of Motorola Solutions’ DMR-related copyrights. This trade secret and copyright case was filed by Motorola Solutions in March 2017.

Hytera is disappointed by this court’s verdict, and respectfully disagrees with the jury. Hytera believes the verdict is unsupported by the evidence presented at trial. Hytera will appeal the verdict and is prepared for the appeal procedures ahead, which may take multiple years. Hytera maintains its faith that the American justice system will ultimately provide a fair outcome in this matter.

Hytera has enhanced its corporate governance and added new policies and procedures related to intellectual property and the onboarding of new employees. In addition, Hytera is engaged in an ongoing process of removing the affected source code from the products at issue and has been rolling out updated software to the marketplace.

I doubt that this is a “Hytera killer”

Look at the copyright infringements between Apple and Samsung.

One entity pays a lot of money to the other, someone changes a bit of their software, and life goes on.

Remember, China based companies are not like companies elsewhere. They are backed by their government. It’s not 6 directors on the board, 2 founders, 10 engineers, and 2 venture capitalists operating the company.

I keep saying that it’s only a matter of time before Baofeng buys Motorola Solutions Inc.

We were told the i series (which Motorola probably thinks means infringement series) was OK after last year's ITC ruling, Now it looks like that may not be the case. A couple of dealers I talked with said they heard there is a new series of radios ready to roll out that are not related to any IP theft.
Maybe they can get a 100 Watt RD982 repeater, it's been on the 'coming soon' list for a few years now.

Kinda funny though when companies like /M\ sit on tens of thousands of patents, controlling only for $$. Just like any other major corp. But here's the kicker...we now in the amateur hobby have sub ~100$ HT's from the major Y, I, K names in the industry (that in ~5 years ago were in the ~500$ range) DIRECTLY because of chicomm/Baofeng/Hytera COMPETITION. COMPETITION IS THE HEART OF CAPITALISM, not stippling and controlling the market at a companies whim by controlling patents and the associated markets by not producing the product/tech that the patent is written for or producing for an exaggerated price point. Sure chicomm doesn't innovate they replicate, and say nay about it....but guess what, it sure wakes people up.
