• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys, kinda new here. So I have an Icom ic-f4061, that I am selling, but on that radio I was able to scan or set up a pager channel that would alert for a two-tone dispatch tone. I have found a XPR6550 and was wondering if I could program a channel the same way? Any help would be great. I do have the Motorola CPS and cable and everything needed.

Yes, you can set up a paging channel in the 6550 to do the same thing. Add your two-tone info as a signaling system and use that signaling system in the RX channel info.

Ok, how do I put the info in as a signaling system? Under Signaling System>MDC>System 1?

Then how do you put Tone A- 1164.0 and Tone B-0313.0 in when it asks for hex and dex?

As shown in the attached image, your radio must have the Quick-Call option under signaling systems. It doesn't seem like that feature is available for yours. MDC is a another type of signaling system which transmit your PTT ID as well as the option to page radios using their MDC ID.

So does that mean I am unable to program this radio to work as a pager as well?

Possibly, i'll allow someone with more knowledge of MotoTRBO CPS to chime in to confirm this but since the option is not there, there's no way to program it

That is the current version of CPS. Can you read the code plug of the radio and provide a screen capture of the Device Information screen? This is the screen you see when you click on the XPR 6550 tab on the left side navigation panel.

Are you in Expert View? From the View menu, switch to Expert if it isn't already. I'm quite certain all XPR6550s are capable of QC-II right out of the box. And you have the latest version of CPS so you should be fine in that regard.

Yes I am in expert view and tried both basic and expert. Could it have to do with the code plug? Maybe I need to start a new one from scratch?

That's really old firmware and might be exactly why you don't have QC-II. No problem though as TRBO firmware is free (legitimately) from MOL. R01.12.15 is the latest for the 6550. Download it, install the package then update your radio in CPS.

Login into your MOL account, go to Resource Center, then Software, then Two Way, then MOTOTRBO, then Conventional-Firmware. Finally, scroll down to R01.12.15 for blah, blah... for XPR4000 and 6000 series. On that page scroll down to the Portable package. Whew!
