• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I guess the first question is what is the calibration of your MFJ frequency counter or what have you checked it against to verify it's correct? Next is define "slightly". Also were you on 800 MHZ or 900 MHz and what was the error on both of those? At any rate, no, there is no quick fix to get a XPR 6580 lined back up. I own probably 10 or so of them and between the rest of the group in our ham radio club probably well over 20. The radios are older, we checked them all on a calibrated service monitor and yes, all were a little off but nothing to worry about at 900 MHz. Are the radios not working right or something that you felt the need to check this or just like some of us, just needed to know.

They won’t talk to each other now all I get on a scanner is garbled and won’t break squelch on the other handheld
Are those screenshots from the two different radios? Do you even have them programmed to the same frequency? If one is transmitting on 936 and the other on 853, I'd say that's your problem. But I don't know what those screenshots represent.

If you have them set to two different frequencies, they aren't going to be able to talk to each other. Put both on 936.6375 and see how it works.

And hopefully you are licensed to use those frequencies.

Who Programmed those radios? At least in IL that 853.4875 is in the Public safety band. Did you buy these and they came supposedly loaded with "test frequencies". Have you verified it narrow FM from the CPS programming software? I looks like you're a ham, re-program them for the 33cm ham band and test them there.

I’ve tried to do the 927.xxxx on simplex and they still won’t talk to each other
Ok let's back up a little bit here. Which CPS are you using? If you'd rather message me, that's fine too, I have 10 or so 6580's that we use for the ham club down here BUT there's a trick to getting the 6580 in the ham bands. If you're not hearing them on a scanner either, that would indicate either faulty radios or bad programming. Which CPS are you using to program and check the radios?

Ya I know about that list. That's why I asked what's going on We use probably 20 of these at various functions and they all work great on DMR. I know guys sell these on eBay "programmed to talk to each other " and one batch when we read them weren't programmed the same. That's why I was asking him to who programmed them.
