• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Greetings,

I Need a little help to Understand how to Thru the CPS 2.0 for the XPR 2500 trying to Display Contact Alias from all the XPR 3300e portables. I'm not sure how to do this with the digital channel. All the XPR3300e have been given their own ID now I'm looking for the XPR2500 to Display the Radio ID example 1234 to Alias "John". I'm used to working with the OLD CDM1550 radios and software. All Help would be appreciated I'm still trying to figure out this DMR Software.

I'm not familiar with the new Over the air Alias option, but I think everything would need to be on a newer FW for that.

to do it the old way you would add every radio to the contacts of the radio you want to see the Alias on. so under contacts click add and make private call contacts. Name them and use the ID number from the radio as the ID.

I've had customers want their employee's name on all their portable. I tell them no don't do that. They said do it anyway. I even explained that if it ever needed to be changed they would need to reprogram all of them. They said their employees don't leave so it's not a big deal. Then they fire John and now I have to reprogram all of their radios to change it lol. I guess not eh?

Call them radio 1 radio 2. or shop 1, shipping 1. jobs remain people change. (might not matter in your case of course, but for companies it was silly)

I 1000% feel your pain. I did the same thing when I built TRBO systems. I tried to explain employee turnover and often fell on deaf ears. So, they get a bill to reprogram. Usually after 3 or 4 trips to reprogram the whole fleet does the idea of generic labels make sense to them. Sometimes it takes a hit to the wallet a few times to get the point across.

Now that we have social media pages that highlight poor LMR installs, it's easy for folks who don't do this for a living to forget that sometimes the customer demands something that isn't good practice. But, we have to do it because the customer is "always" right. *sigh*

We tell the customer "this is a bad idea", but they want it done anyway.
Social media "look what this dumb radio shop did!! They don't know anything"

Some days, you can't win no matter what.

With the release last year of M2021.02 a feature called Talker Alias became available. To use it all of the components of the system MUST be at least at that level most importantly the REPEATERS.

Once in it makes life so much better, as only Groups, Dispatch Ids for apps, an Subscriber ids that you need to map in a TX-Contact for default PTT on a Zone/Channel, need to in the contacts section.
