To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Has anyone been successful in programming the "Zone Selection" and "Monitor" features in the subject radio? I programmed the "P1" button for the "Zone" selection feature and the "P3" button for the "Monitor" feature. My "P2" button is programmed for the "Talkaround" feature and my "P4" button is programmed for turning the "Encryption" feature "on/off" and I am not having any problems with these two features.

When I push the "P1" button to select a Zone, the button does not do anything. When I scroll through all the channels with the channel selector, they are in one zone group. When I click in the Zone/Channel Assignments, the CPS shows all of my Zones and the respective channels assigned to their respective Zones. Five of the zones are analog and one is a DMR Zone of 8-9 Digital channels.

In the Menu Section, I tried with the "Edit Zone" box checked and unchecked.

I have the same problem with the "Monitor" button. I assume this feature is a PL/DPL Delete Feature for deactivating the receiver decoder or a "Open Squelch" function. The button does nothing.

Also, I have a XPR7550e and I essentially have this radio set up with the same Zone and Channel configurations as the XPR5550e radio with the "P1" programmed as my Zone feature and the "Monitor" feature programmed on one of the side buttons and I am not having any problems in activating the subject features with the portable radio.

I think I have tried every possible setting with the 5550e radio to activate the subject features.

Does anyone have any clues on why the 5550e is not cooperating?

And your Monitor issue sounds similar to this: Mototrbo CPS 2 Monitor
It was exactly the same situation and changing the "Admit Criteria" to "Always" took care of the problem. Who would have think that setting that was causing not to have the "PL Defeat feature on the analog channels. Why couldn't they just have the feature "PL Defeat" like the real Motorola radios had.

I thank you for passing on the information. Now, if I can get the Home button go to home on both my XPR7550e portable and my XPR5550e mobile and the Zone Selection to work on the mobile. The Zone Selection on the portable works just fine, its the mobile that feature doesn't work. I "may" start liking the MotoTRBO stuff.

I'm not sure why they designed it like that. Here's the only mention of it that I've found in the Help file:

As for your Zone issue, K2NEC has the solution in post #2.

So you went to the section of the CPS tree that deals with control buttons and for the keypad you unchecked "Channel in All Zones" and then checked "Channel in Home Zone" instead and it still isn't working properly?

I made the correction and now I can select zones in the 5550e just like the 7550e. Thank you very much for the information.

Now, if I can just figure out how to make the home button on both the portable and mobile to go to my programmed home channel and zone, and keep the permanent monitor feature enabled after the mic is keyed so I can have the "PL Defeat" feature and toggle it on and off when I want it toggled on and off. I do have my Home Zone and Channel programmed to the zone and channel I want in the General Settings.

so if you program the home button for that every time you are off the channel it will alert you in so many minutes.

Its not designed like the astro25/apx line.

I hope who ever that designed the MotoTrbo series have no involvement with any future Motorola radio line and go to work for a CCR company in Pandaland. The MotoTrbo series designer has no business designing Motorola radios. Most of the programming setting names have no real meaning at all.
