• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a few questions about the programming CPS for Motorola XTS 1500. Our department recently purchased the XTS 1500's. I have the correct programming cable which is a 9 pin serial port. When i launch the cps and click read radio i get an error that says NEXTgen 10, open radio failed with a bunch of numbers. I went under user settings and made sure it was set to COM port 1 and also went under the Com port settings and changed it to COM port 1. I am also including some pictures of the errors i am getting. Is there a reason for this?

Thank you.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.2; en-us; SCH-I535 Build/JZO54K) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

The same cable won't work for the Jedi Series and the XTS1500 series.

I see other cables that have 6 pins that plug into the radio compared to the 4 pins that are built on this cable. Do you think i need the 6 pin cable?

You need a cable that will program an XTS1500. Google it and you'll come up with a lot of dealers that sell such a cable.

Do NOT use homemade or ebay cables for XTS/L or ANY radio. Unless you are building a house (because you will have a lot of bricks). First, talk to the people who sold your department the radios. They (hopefully) know how to program this series radio. If YOU are the person authorized to do the programming, take the week long class in Schaumberg so you dont destroy the fleet of radios. OR, have the shop you bought the radios from get the cable for you.
