• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,
I am new to all this radio stuff and I am looking for someone to program about 25 XTS radios for me to use. I would like them to just have Channels 1-10. The radios are 700/800 P25. Please let me know if you can help or can point me in the direction to get it done.

Thank you,

Jonesy

We need more details. 7/800 P25 CONVENTIONAL? Or something else? And what is it going to be used for? Public safety? Scanning? Something else?

Not trying to be the radio police, but if the OP has a bunch of surplus radios and wants them for personal use, there is no place to hide in the 700/800 range. You can't just pick frequencies and operate, someone is on just about every frequency everywhere and you will stand out. If this is not the case then I apologize for my comments.

Some good advice above.

Are you/your agency licensed for these 10 channels?
There are no 'free', itinerant, Part 95 or amateur radio channels in the 700/800MHz band. Unless you have a valid FCC license for these frequencies, it would be a violation of the FCC rules.

If you are covered under a valid Part 90 license, then you need to talk to your employer. The FCC rules are very clear on who is permitted to add radios to an existing system. The license holder will have the correct programming info and likely has an existing radio shop that does their work.

As for programming, most Motorola radio shops can program these for you. Just make sure you have the license in hand, and approval from the licensee on agency letter head. Most reputable shops will not program radios for you on someone else's system without authorization from the license holder.

And the 700/800mHz bands are watched pretty closely. Programming random frequencies into those radios is unlikely to go unnoticed.

There is a good chance the 1500s could be programmed under their existing license for some simplex frequencies for use by the licensee but someone would have to research their license and frequencies, trunked or conventional, etc.

Even if they could, having the radios programmed by some random dude from the internet really doesnt look good. OP should send them to a shop and have them professionally programmed.
