To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok so I have 2 questions.
1- I have a xts 2500 800mhz I just got. When I power it on self test flashes on the screen and the green led blinks once and nothing else happens. When I push the buttons no reaction at all. Any idea what the issue is?

2- I also just got a Motorola xts 2500 full keypad. I want frount panel programing on it. The info on it is:

Host version R17.01.01
DSP version R17.01.00
Flash code 500000-000410-5

Is frount panel programing possible?

Thank you

The 800 mhz XTS 2500 is inhibited. Was probably on a trunked system, had a duplicate ID or was reported lost/stolen. It will be a bear to uninhibit. It will not be much good asking how to do that here.

Second, the other XTS2500 flashcode decodes as this.
Decoding Flashcode: 500000-000410-5
Platform: XTS2500

Q806: ASTRO IMBE Digital Operation
H14: Enhanced Digital ID Display
Q173: SmartZone Omnilink MultiZone Operation
Q575: 3600 Baud Trunking (Analog/Digital Voice)

Decoded by the akardam.net FC Decoder v4

It will not do FPP without having it flashed. Expensive upgrade from Motorola. There are ways to add it second hand, but I don't know how and again, asking how to do that here is probably moot.

There are people out there that could possibly fix or do both of them for you. I'm not saying it's not possible, but Radioreference is a bit stringent on these kinds of questions.

Send that inhibited radio back to whom you bought it from and get your money back. It's either hot or illegal. You sure don't need that kind of hassle if you paid any money for it.

It come from a city surplus sale. I am definitely going to try to get my money back on the 800mhz. As far as the VHF goes I want to keep it motorola original. No modifications unless it comes from legit motorola software.

Wait a second, I may be missing something here...

You purchased a surplus 800MHz radio from a city surplus sale.
The radio appears to be inhibited in some manner.
You want your money back?

Did I miss something here?

Of course the radio is not allowed to access their system, no surprise there. Have you tried reprogramming it with the correct CPS? I'm not totally clear on how the XTS radios when inhibited by a trunked system, so that may not be possible, someone would need to clarify that.
What you could do is find out who does their radio programming. Talk nicely to them and ask if they can un-inhibit the radio and load in a frequency as RX only. It might cost you a few bucks, but they shouldn't be selling radios that are inhibited. We load our old MTS2000 radios with a single conventional channel in RX only mode before we let them go.
You could try doing it yourself if you have the programming software. You might need to find a new codeplug for that exact model radio and just write to the radio.

Forgive me if I'm off base here, I'm just confused why you purchased a radio without any plan for getting it programmed. Purchasing a surplus radio and expecting it to work on the trunked system is an unrealistic expectation.

Reading it will only confirm that it's been inhibited and not allow anything else. The only ways to uninhibit it is to use the console that stung it in the first place, send it to Moto (but they'll only do it if you're the original owner, obviously) or have the "magic wand" software we shall not speak of (I don't have it nor do I know how to use it).

OK, thanks for the clarification. We have XTS2500's here, but we don't use them on trunking anymore, so I'm not so familiar with the inhibit behavior. The MTS2000's didn't do that, at least not that I remember.

Still, seems like if the city knew this, they should fix it. If they have their own radio shop, it should be an easy fix.
