• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I currently operate a VHF XTS 5000 Model 2 in New Hampshire where I spend a lot of time however, I spend most of my time in Metro-Boston Mass. And I'm stuck with a real crappy baofeng radio. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a 450-512 split 2500 or 5000 for cheap. In addition, I'm looking for a fire radio strap and case, and also trying to decide between a commander 2, 3, or Jedi Mic.
Any Help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Also if anyone has any idea what the anti sway strap is that would be great!

Like what its for? Basically you clip it to the back of your bunkers so that the strap stays are your side and doesn't sway all over..

And be advised that the commander mics dont work with the 2500's... tried that. Only 3000 and 5000. Id pick up a https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-RMN5038A-speaker-microphone-XTS25000/dp/B00RYBVRSW

Dont buy from amazon you can find a used one much cheaper. It gives you the commander feel. The regular jedi style mic actually has better audio in my opinion but doesn't look as cool I guess...

What bwca44 said, the anti-sway is a small leather strap designed to clip onto a radio holder pouch and then on the wearer's pants so that when you lean over your radio doesn't dangle down in someone's face on the ground or get in your way when being worn on your radio strap.

Picture below, radio for scale. (Kids ate all the bananas lol) As far as a mic, I use the NMN6193C and have no complaints. https://www.ebay.com/i/182457898191?chn=ps&dispItem=1

Thanks so much! Would you recommend getting it used or new?

I do like the look of the Jedi a lot and If it has better audio, I would probably go with it. The only thing with the commanders is that I like the fact that I can have the emergency button (which I use for scan toggle) and the channel selector knob, and mainly the volume controls. These would all be very nice in the winter.!however, the Jedi is a hell of a lot cheaper!

Commander mic's can be had for $30 if you look hard enough on eBay. That's also where I'd get the radio if price is your restraint. The only Commander that will work with the XTS2500 is the Commander without the channel knob, I believe it's the one with GPS. Don't have part number on me at the moment.
