• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am trying to program some XTS3000 radios. I have the Astro 25 Tuner version R05.04.02 software and the RIBless cable from Motorola. I cannot read the radio. When I try using the COM1 port it will take a couple of seconds and say communication with the radio failed, if I use USB port, it automatically says communications with the radio failed. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a different software or cable? Thanks in advance.

You're trying to use the wrong CPS, that's all.
Astro Saber and XTS3000 use Astro CPS, not Astro 25. It's also preferable, to avoid trouble, to use an actual RIB, not a ribless cable, where RIB capability is required, and it is required when programming an Astro Saber or XTS3000.

Also, the Tuner Software is for adjusting the Tx/Rx settings in the radio, not programming. You need the CPS.

Can I use the Astro 25 Portable CPS? I also have that program and it won't read the radios? Do I need a driver for the cable?

You need the ASTRO Saber & XTS 3000 CPS. The Astro 25 Portable CPS is for the XTS 5000 series (if my memory serves correct).

I am using CPS ver R5.03.00 for my XTS 3000 units. The 3000 units are no longer being sold by M so I think this is the newest version. They were discontinued, and replaced with the 5000 series and now the APX series. I love the 3000 series, they are a wonderful radio ...

As far as the cable, if you are using a RIBless unit connected to your COMM port, you do not need a driver. You just need to make sure you turn off the radio before connecting the cable. I have heard of problems when connecting the cable to a powered up radio.

But it has to be said that any programing has to be conducted professionally and to be in compliance with local, state, and federal communication laws and guidelines. The average "Joe" should not attempt to program a radio unless they are legally authorized to access a channel or system. There has been several discussions about the legality of turning a retired radio into a scanner. Yes that is legal, however, it is a waste since it's cheaper to buy a scanner. Further, the user / programmer has to be 100% clear that the radio MUST NOT TX at any time. It's too risky unless again you have permission to access a channel or system. Even the smallest TX on a public safety system or channel is VERY ILLEGAL (when not authorized).
