If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I recently purchased a Motorola XTS3000 that I cannot access the menus on. I am able to transmit and hear the transmission on my Motorola Talkabout FRS radios. However I cannot hear anything from the XTS on my Talk About. So two issues here. What possibly is wrong and how can I correct this?

I bought it FRS conventenal programmed.

Thanks.

Ignoring the illegal usage aspect, I am not certain if the XTS series is able to be programmed to transmit on the extra narrowband deviation that is used on FRS.

Easier and cheaper to use FRS radios for FRS. (Bonus of being legal, too.)

Seriously a 3K just for FRS use?

Yes the 3k will program fine on FRS freq's but why may I ask when there are better ways to do it?

The programmer Probably has RX CTCSS enabled on the XTS, hold in the monitor button (upper left purple button) on the XTS while TX'ING on the FRS radio.

But I have to really ask if this is a serious post and that you really purchased an xts3k for FRS use only?

This is like purchasing a sports car just to drive around a friggin golf course when a golf cart is a better choice.

I suggest getting a golf cart, uh I mean a 20 dollar FRS radio.

I purchased an XTS3000 a while back and it was also programmed with FRS/GMRS channels. They all were simplex and had various PL and DCS tones programmed with them. It was engraved with Washington DC PD on the side of it. Perhaps you bought it from the same guy I did, he was selling many of them cheap. I quickly wiped the radio clean and reprogrammed for my needs.

If there is a button programmed for monitor mode press that and you should be able to hear your talk about. If the channels all have PL or DCS tones you're going to need to reprogram that to QSK or whatever tone you use with the talkabout radios.

XTS3000 is a bit over kill for FRS usage regardless of the legality of it.
