• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The military and some government organizations also used FPP. (UHF)
Yes. I have 2 UHF XTS2500’s that came from the factory with FPP, & dim display lighting. The flash code on the factory tag is 160003-000100-8. And there is no FCC ID #. It does show CAGE 78205 whatever that means.

But the point is.. FPP Was a Government only Option.. Any radio that was not sold to a government agency is hacked. Sellers on Ebay are buying the dime a dozen XTS 7/800 hitting them with a dose of Depot and reselling them to unsuspecting buyers who now think they can use FPP anywhere on 7/800 or program trunking.

So then the problem is with dishonest sellers misrepresenting their product. It’s a shame people are dishonest like that. To quote a friend, buy the seller, not the item. I know 4, or 5 E-Bay sellers who honestly represent their inventory. Things like “has tags, but flash doesn’t match the tag” means it’s been “upgraded” which is fine with me. At least they are honest. And adding “just tuned on an Aeroflex 3920”, & including the documentation to prove that is a plus.

There is nothing factory about Q52 and Q53 in the same flashcode, sorry.

Decoding Flashcode: 160003-000100-8 Platform: XTS2500

Q806 - ASTRO IMBE Digital Operation
H869 - Hardware Multikey Encryption
Q52 - Federal Government FPP
H02 - Encrypted Tactical Inhibit
H35 - Conventional Systems Operation
Q53 - FCC FPP And Radio Cloning

6 options included in this flashcode.

But yet that’s how my 2 radios were built. The display was very dim for use with night vision goggles, & the rx, tx light on top was not connected. I’d gladly send a photo of the factory tags to anyone who wants to see. These were specially made US Marine radios.

Too bad for you. Daekstar 1056 is elite -- and it's required to get Q52 and Q53 in the same radio. Definite hack job you got there.

I know exactly what you are talking about because I too bought one. I upgraded and refurbished the radio as best as I could and I sold it just because I didn't really need the radio. It was a beautiful radio and I do miss it from time to time.

We have plenty of UHF P25 repeaters here in SE Florida. It was handy to have FPP on a Motorola radio. Especially when traveling to a hamfest in another city. I certainly didn’t need the AES-256 that was in the radio from the factory, but that’s how it came. The seller restored the screen to full brightness, & hooked up the rx, tx lamp on the top. And I got the Aeroflex 3920 report for the radio. My friend, & I each bought one, but when he bought an APX, I bought his 2500, so I have a pair. And I use similar 900 MHz radios on the local repeaters here.

That's the way my VHF 2500 is. Invisible backlight, Q52 and Q53, and AES. No Darkstar. :ROFLMAO:

Just so you have it correct Q52 FPP was "government only", Q53 FPP could be ordered by anyone. I have 2 XTS2500s and an XTS5000 all with Q53 from the factory

And Q53 no longer requires a dongle with the APX series, they removed that requirement in 2017 with R16...password only now, so Q53 is functionally equivalent to Q52 at this point. I always laugh when I see whored out codeplugs with both Q52 and Q53 in them.

Your radio was assembled using the keypad/display from a UHF USMC radio. I wanted a VHF XTS2500 with FPP, AES/DES and a guy had to build it by hacking up a couple of different radios. I didn't care that it was hacked, the price was fair and it works great.
