Thought I'd create a post for the TRBO stuff that's cropping up lately.

Alberta:

- Wheatland County Fire has gone TRBO on their existing VHF freqs. Strathmore (Town) FD and WADEMSA (ambulance) are still VHF analog.

- Heard a TRBO sounding signal on 452.575 in Canmore on 01 Apr 2008 but sounded like it was an image. No license in the TAFL, so suspect it might be a bounce of:

- 463.2375 booming in loud and clear west of Calgary. Everywhere from downtown Bragg Creek to the top of Scott Lake Hill hears this channel 5x5. There are many licensees across the Calgary/Banff corridor and other areas of the province including Lethbridge, so it's hard to tell exactly who has gone with this setup. Believe the Exshaw Baymag plant is still conventional, as analog audio on tone 203.5 was picked up on Scott Lake Hill when the TRBO sound cut out.

If you have more examples, please post them here - even if all you have is a frequency and location, we can try to figure out the licensee, etc., with that info.

This is, of course, for all Western Canada - not just Alberta. ;)

Its just the beginning, several MOT dealers in Edmonton tell me they have at least 10 current customers waiting for approval from IC for TRBO repeater/radio upgrades.
A major mall in Edmonton was one of them.

In response to questions about MotoTRBO or Digital systems in Alberta, I don't have any new frequencies as I tend to only monitor frequencies I can program into a scanner. Don't have the time to scan entire bands. Thus, will only supplement what has been discussed before: 463.9375 which I have heard as far out of Calgary as Three Hills; also, I thought I heard digital this morning on 155.49; last Friday 151.355, 155.19 in the Calgary area. Other than 155.49 would support Wheatland going to MotoTRBO.

Odd.. the story I had was that 155.49 was NOT going to switch, because that's the Strathmore town, and countywide EMS, which are supposedly sticking with analog.

151.355 and 155.19 are part of the county's channels.

That 463.9375 one is boggling me... I can find no evidence, even Canada-wide, in the TAFL, of any license that would make sense to cover such an area. The frequency is popular among building management in the Calgary downtown core - I'm wondering if they switched to TRBO with a skyscraper-mounted repeater, not turning down the power, and not realizing it is broadcasting so far?

151.355 is part of the county's digital MotoTRBO network. They sound very much like P25, but aren't decodable by current scanners.

The Radios are cheap enough though, but you have to get the software too--

Folks, please keep this thread for reporting new MotoTRBO systems "found" in Western Canada. We can discuss everything else in other threads. Thanks.

Over the last week, I have heard digital on 155.49. Last Tuesday, Saturday and again today [Tuesday] at around 1345 local time. Was listening to EMS dispatch an ambulance and when dispatch unkeyed, could hear a weaker digital signal. Later, heard the digital signal again. Seems like it is at a distance from Calgary. I suspect it is to the east as have heard it louder in the east part of Calgary than the west. Something a little unusual [at least I think], is when the digital signal stops, the repeater stays up for a couple of seconds before dropping. 151.355 is full strength in Calgary now, never heard it this strong when analog.

I thought I had heard MotoTRBO or Digital on 168.15 over the past couple of weeks. This morning, around 1100 hrs. while watching planes try to land at YYC [strong north wind was causing a little bit of wobble on the landing planes], my scanner stopped on 168.15 again with Digital noise. I had this frequency programmed as IC indicates it as Siksika ambulance as well as County of Wheatland. I have heard a great deal of activity on 154.175 but all analog. Thus it looks like 168.15 in the Calgary area has someone using Digital. Signal not strong in Calgary. I see this frequency is also listed for Parks Canada. ?????

168.15 (and 171.81, the other half of the pair) was Wheatland County's public works channel. The public works crews were going to share this new TRBO system with Wheatland County Fire. So I'd presume the frequency pair is now used in the TRBO system.

Hum, not sure where the MOTOBRO thread went to. 2008 Nov. 8 and 2008 Nov. 11 heard what sounded like MOTOBRO on 451.5875 in Calgary. ? Glentel. Not really sure why Glentel would have to go to MOTOBRO but?

Not sure if this is the correct place to put this as I can't confirm that I heard MotoTRBO but did hear something about digital radios not working but analog was working. Sorry, driving in rush hour traffic so didn't listen any closer. This was on 169.410 which I see is listed to City of Airdrie Public Works according to Radioreference. Not sure if they were talking about digital radios on another frequency or not. Posting for information and maybe perk some peoples ears up to listen for something new.

421.9875 heard in the Calgary area on Feb 06 2009. Strong in the SW part of town. Doesn't come back with any TAFL licenses.

This is the Canada wide pair for Solicitor General of Canada responsible for Public safety in Canada, in Vancouver that has been enc since time & memorial. So I can see it being the same in Alberta.

421.9875 in Edmonton with the same agency is just P25 ENC. Also two 425 Mhz Simplex channels.
460.3375 Edmonton Int Airport
461.3375 Edmonton Int Airport Fire
460.2125 Edmonton Int Airport
451.7375 Enoch River Cree Hotel Casino Security
All Motorola Turbo
West Edmonton Mall Security still analog and was considering Turbo over two years ago. My tests with the Simplex Motor Turbo in the mall turned up terrible. Stayed with Uhf analog. It is a hard mall to cover even when it had one phase in 1981.
