• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've looked for a day, maybe my searching just sucks, but I'm not finding anything to point me in the right direction.

I have a local MotoTRBO system that I pulled the frequencies for using RR. Crossed referenced it with the FCC ULS ALS, found more licensed frequencies than RR had and I tossed them into my BCD996P2. I know I'm in the right spot because my BCD is cranking out audio from the business. I think I know the color code based on the attached screenshot (in red). All in all, the BCD is working great and I'm picking up on transmissions.

When I toss these into MotoTRBO CPS 2.0 and upload to the XPR7550e, I am getting full signal strength and a flashing green LED, but no audio. I've tried repeater slot 1 and 2 as well. I have the zone set for RX only. The BCD is pumping out audio but the XPR is not. I'll admit, it's been a few years since I did MotoTRBO XPR programming so I'm rusty, but all things point to "this should work". I'm not planning on going any deeper on the 7550 unless it is something stupid simple. I'm using this radio for DMR on HAM but thought I'd give it a go on the local system to see if I could catch anything. The scanner is working just fine.

Sounds like RAS is in use, a Motorola radio won't allow you to hear if RAS is used.

I was thinking RAS too, but wasn't sure because I can hear the audio on the scanner.
How does something like the BCD996P2 with DMR get around the RAS protection? Just to clarify, I'm not asking to get around the RAS protection, just wondering how the scanner is able to hear the transmission but the 7550e can't.

Edit: finally a search that I found on my own. :) Know RAS key for a protected MotoTRBO system - Can I now listen with an SDR?
Answered my own question. MOTOTRBO RAS.

The scanner ignores the status bit for the RAS identifier. So on a commercial radio if RAS is enabled then it wont pass audio with out the proper key. On the scanner it passes audio because it ignores RAS.
