• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

SYS REG RFSD OUT OF RANGE NO COMMS
Hi all, does Mototrbo CPS have a "Digital CSQ" or "NAC F7E" equivalent option that will cause radio to unsquelch to all traffic regardless TG, CC or slot?

Thanks all

Question regarding color codes?
There are only 16 standard DMR CCs. Yet in the world of other two way system "co-channel separator codes" there are far more choices. i.e. CTCSS ~ 32 standard EIA, CDDCS~83-110, NAC etc. In a major metro market, a UHF business channel can have more than 16 co-channel systems within range.

Why only 16? Is there another co-channel system separator available?

In my opinion, it doesnt matter. A busy channel is a busy channel. I see one of three scenarios: you are tx'ing making it busy, someone else is, and your radio unmutes, or the signal doesnt have the right info to unmute, because programming. Talkgroups, timeslots, and contacts are enough. Again, my opinion.

Regarding: "In my opinion, it doesn't matter. A busy channel is a busy channel."

That is not entirely correct. In the FCC world of co-channel interference the ratio of desirable to interference ratio is paramount. In the UHF band it is 39/21 dbu. TSB-88 further refines the levels. So it is possible and legal for two or more systems within range to successfully operate at the same time and separate because of capture. System separator codes, i.e. DMR color codes, PL tones etc, allow the users to maintain sanity and avoid system confusion.

Regarding: "Talk groups, timeslots, and contacts are enough."

You sir may have indeed answered my question. The combination of talk groups plus color codes may indeed be the reason why Motorola and ETSI never saw the requirement to go beyond 16 color codes. TG's act as a multiplier to the color code to allow sanity between co-channel DMR systems in busy markets.
