• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Mototrbo Question

What is needed to program a Mototurbo radio? What I mean is: In the analog world you'd need TX RX and PL's. Does Mototurbo have something comparable to analog PL tones?

Also, I have heard of "talkgroups" for conventional frequnecies, what does this mean exactly?

- RX and TX freq's of course
- Color code, this is like a PL for access to the repeater (and its just a number, what it has to do with colors I have no idea)
- Slot; you can program a channel on either slot 1 or 2. Some systems also have trunking options for determining the slot.
- Group ID is basically a talkgroup. Only radios with that group programmed in the channel will hear that group. There is an AllCall group also, which all users will receive when transmitted on that group.
- Radio IDs can be programmed in so you can see the ID of the person talking, or do private calls to an individual user

Programming

Types are Conventional TRBO, then IP site connect ( two or more sites with one repeater per site), Capacity plus, One site multiple repeaters, or Connect plus ( multiple sites with multiple repeaters.
The later will require the owner of the system to enter your radios serial number and ID or the controller will kick you out.

Also if you are communicating to an existing fleet, they may have a privacy key enabled ( a type of encryption), if you read an existing radio, it does not populate the software with the key

One more thing, you should get the latest version of software, if yours is not the most current and the radio has newer firmware than your software was designed for, it will not read
