To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The only real issue is that you just can’t punch in a talkgroup. Any talkgroup you want to use has to be programmed.
I have both 7550s and 5550s in use on amateur DMR. Using CPS 16 with 2.09 firmware. No issues on Motorola or Hytera DMR repeaters, openSPOT4 Pro or anything analog. As others have stated:
-Not a program on the fly radio. CPS 16 is your friend
-Only add the people you talk to in contacts...its not an Anytone with 500,000 contacts and its a manual add
-Wide band is an easy workaround, just search
-RX audio leveling is great for all the morons that don't tweak their audio. And you'll get compliments if you know how to set up your audio (PM me if you need help)

WHy do you prefer XTS?
Used XTS 5000 with fpp is pretty much same price as 7550e, i'm looking to get a quality handheld for ... portable and for leaving in my car connected to an external antenna.

I HATE the UI of the XPR7550. I also don't like the continous channel selector, I much prefer a 16 position selector.
I also find the XTS to just feel better in my hand as well.
Interesting that's a big deal for me, I need positive clicks for each channel ...

With Motorola and their 15+1 scan list, I like to keep my zones to 16 channels. It makes scan list planning much simpler for me.
It's just my preference.
I acquired a NX5200 quite recently. Only paid C$500 for it and it came with a high capacity battery, charger and speaker mic. So far I like it. I'm slowly building a codeplug for it. So far I like it. Having P25, DMR and analogue in one radio is quite nice. Unfortunately, it's missing the channel stop, so I'm forced into a continous channel selector now. Maybe I'll order the channel stop at some point and re-jig my zones.

Its a 7550e with their own firmware, it has everything a 7550e has and more, and it uses the same programming cable
$299 is a good deal and it does 500k contacts
I use my 5550e as a base and have it remoted to my office I really like the display and audio from that radio

XTS has a SMA type antenna while the 7550 uses the MX "bolt". The 7550 does not have a center conductor to easily connect an external antenna.
The 7550 does have positive clicks per channel. The feature referenced is used to either roll over from channel 16 to 1 or include more than 16 channels in one zone.

Also, in the General Settings, you can turn on Virtual Channel Lock -- Then the knob "stops" at 1 and 16.
