It began about 3pm on Beachwood Lane in the Shenandoah Reatreat in Clarke Co VA. As of 8pm it was 75 acres and 40% contained. At that time, 2 non residental structures had been lost. With 35mph winds in a populated area it's miracle nothing more was lost. It spent most of the afternoon in Clarke Co but spread to Jefferson Co about 6pm. For anybody familar with the Holy Cross Abbey (the Monastery), it's across the Shenandoah River from that. None of it was into Loudoun as of early evening.
Most of the traffic I heard was on Loudoun County's TRS 6d & 6e, and 159.33 (Va. Dept of Forestery). With about 7 counties on scene, frequencies used for inter acencies communication include: Frederick Co VA 155.265, Clarke Co VA 46.1, Jefferson Co WV 153.86 and 153.89. Frederick Co MD, Berkeley Co WV, and Fauquier Co VA also on scene.
The Loudoun Co 6d was used from the start since most of the intial crews came from that county and Clarke's system uses old low band non repeated radios.
The command post was moved to Clarke County station 8 about 7pm. Crews from about 60 miles south were brought in & just arrived. More are due Wednesday, and water drops from a copter are planned.
