Mountain View Fire Station Move?

Between being busier than a mosquito in a nudist colony and being sick as a dog the last month or so I seem to have lost track of a Mountain View Fire station!? The one that *was* at Weld County Roads 24 & 13 (Now know as Firestone Parkway and Colorado Blvd in `the people's republic of Firestone'.) is in the process of being torn down. Unfortunately because of my previously stated condition(s) I haven't been able to get out and try and find out just *where* things have moved or what has happened. I still see the occasional pieces of Mountain View equipment around the area but haven't been able to take off and follow to see where they may be quartered. (Usually it is when I'm either headed into the doc's office or am headed home hoping that I can get there in time before it becomes moot about getting *there* to `drive the porcelain bus'. [Until we can get things straightened out and my meds `re-calibrated' I am *not* driving and as such don't have the `liberty' to go chasing around like I'd like to.] I pretty much at the `mercy' of my `chauffeur' and her schedule. {WAN GRIN!} Fortunately this time isn't quite a bad as the last time we went through this since a lot of the stress is gone and hopefully it will be over a lot quicker?)

Here is a news article about station two’s closing and also move, I don’t think it stated to where though. For right now I believe most of their equipment is at station three in Mead.

I had a friend who lives in Firestone tell me it had X's on the bay doors and a sign stating it was closed. I had a hard time believing that since it was a busy station and it was Mountain Views fire training center.

Well... You should see it now! It looks like someone set a bomb inside and while the walls seem to have held the roof looks like a big hunk of yellow cotton candy. The bay doors are now big chunks of plywood and there's all sorts of graffiti spray painted here and there. Quite a `come down' for a facility that wasn't very old and was apparently in very good shape.

I suspect that it just might be a case of `The People's Republic of Firestone' flexing their sphincter muscles again. (Disclaimer: Just in case no one can figure it out we just happen to *not* `appreciate' `The People's Republic of Firestone' all that much. With all their land grabbing to get themselves a `tax base' and attempting to become a slightly bigger `toad in the road' they will soon be telling us that they know how to run our farm better than we do even though this farm has been in the family for almost 100 years and has done quite well. [They recently decided that instead of following the `comprehensive plan' that was approved by the people in the county 10+ years ago that had designated the section that our farm is a part of as a `buffer zone', which BTW actually wasn't really as `good?' for us as it might seem at first glance but was a *lot* better than the alternatives, like this one, that were presented were, they were moving their city boundary all the way out to WCR 19 & 26 thereby making us a part of their `Republic?' whether we wanted to be or not. There was no notice of *any* kind that they were doing it! No snail-mail, no signs posted, not even something in any of the `news? papers' we might get. We just happened to discover it when, one day while doing some `research' for another `affair' we've been fighting for 12 years now, I happened to pick up a map from the County that, besides showing our `Platt' information, showed city limits boundaries. Lo and behold! There's `The People's Republic of Firestone' claiming that WCR 19 & 26 is their NE `city limits'! {AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!}] The only, for now at least, `fortunate' thing is they haven't, yet, started sending us property, and other, tax notices. One other `item'... While they are *claiming* to `claim' us we are `still?' in the Platteville Fire Protection District and the Weld RE-1 school district. Both of which are great for us *especially* since this `destruction' of Station 2. [Though I am expecting our insurance company may eventually discover that Station 2 is closed and hike our premiums on us because we won't have a good `response' times `rating' as we had with both Station 2 and Platteville being as close as they were/are. (When they built Station 2 our insurance company gave us a reduction in our premiums for having two excellently rated Fire Departments as close as they were. Having Station 2 there took almost $1K/year off our premiums! A great help at a time when premiums were constantly escalating at the rate they were then.)] In the case of the schools being in Weld RE-1 is almost like the difference between night and day. The Firestone schools *might* be `good?' schools for where they are but, with the explosive growth they have been `egging on' they haven't been able to keep up. [Your friend may be able to `expound upon' what's happening better than I since the people we used to know in Firestone have finally managed to move away to where we are begining to consider moving to. {FROWN!}]) Firestone probably figures that they'll make more in taxes from the various businesses that are supposedly going in there than not having that station there will cost? (While there might be some cost to Firestone itself the cost to all the homeowners and businesses will be much greater. {FROWN!} ) It just seems `penny wise and pound foolish' to even temporarily `relocate?' that station. *Especially* with all the growth they've been promoting these last few years. Having to have Mountain View respond from Mead isn't good. *If* it was *that* `all fired' important to getting yet *another* `shopping center' or whatever in there, at that intersection, then they, both Firestone *and* the `developer', should have first built a replacment station *before* demolishing that one! This is one of those *very few* times when the `line', "If it saves just one life it's worth it." *definitely* applies. On top of that it is a `slap in the face' for the firefighters no matter *how much* they might try and `spin' things.

View #2 was right in Firestone city limits. Frederick-Firestone is building a new station somewhere not too far from the old Mountain View #2. I can't remember exactly where.

The only equipment, and personel, at the `SE Weld County Service Center' are the `Rescue' trucks. (The `SE Weld County Service Center' is approximately 2 1/2 miles away from where Station #2 was.) The rest of the equipment, and associated personel, are over 5 miles away from the old Station #2's location up in Sekitch Business Park on the NE corner of the I-25 and Hiway 66 intersection. Given that the area between where Station #2 was and the `SE Weld County Service Center', so far, isn't all that `built up' I suspect that the `Rescue' responses won't be all that, relatively speaking, adversely affected. However, even with the lack of developement between WCR 24 / Firestone Pkwy & WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd and I-25 & Hiway 66, the responses of the rest of the equipment cannot *not* be adversely affected. Both locations responses *will* be adversely affected during the winter months as the roads around here are usually not kept clear all that well. (The area around the 1-25 & Hiway 119 / WCR 24 / Firestone Pkwy intersection, which is pretty much also the same as the area around the `SE Weld County Service Center', and possibly over to the WCR 24 / Firestone Pkwy & WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd *might* be better cleared than in the past though I suspect that the stretch between I-25 East to WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd will still be a problem anyway. The stretch of WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd between WCR 24 / Firestone Pkwy and Hiway 66 is going to be another different deal. With the exceptions of the area immediately around the WCR 24 / Firestone Pkwy & WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd intersection and the bridge over St. Vrain Creek on WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd WCR 23 / Colorado Blvd is pretty much the same road it has always been and historically has been a lower priority than, lessay, Hiway 66 or even the stretch of WCR 24 / Firestone Pkwy between 1-25 and WCR 13 / Colorado Blvd. Also both Hiway 66 and WCR 13 are plagued with drifting quite a bit of the time. [On top of all that even *if* there isn't any `weather' to deal with they have been doing all sorts of digging up the road for `utilties' and such which has meant that there have been constant `detours' to deal with! And I'd expect that this probably won't change for some time.]) Unless something has either been `worked out' or drastically changed in how these roads are `maintained' I tend to wonder about whether this is all that `good?' of a situation. Quite frankly I think that someone, or `someones?', were `thinking?' with their kidneys rather than their brains. (No matter *what* kind of `spin' that may be thrown out things *aren't* all that good with this situation.)
