Why do people use an external structure to mount their antennas as opposed to mounting them directly to the structure of their house?

House structures are not really designed to carry significant weight or wind loads whereas towers are designed for that.

Lightning... That's a good reason also...

Insurance... For me i could get $8000 to cover JUST my towers under my home owners insurance, if i put the same antennas on the house itself then it increases my rate for the house and its lumped in with any other losses.
