Mounting a Handheld in a Vehicle - Suggestions?

Curious what exepriences anyone has had with mounting their handheld in a vehicle for mobile use. I am aware of a vent mount, but in my vehicle that wouldn't be the best solution. What say you - any workable solutions? FYI, I do have a 780XLT mounted in my truck, but when I commute I pass through counties with digital systems, and therefore take my Pro-96 as well. So looking for some good way of mounting it besides clipping it to my sun visor - the old standby. Thanks!

Custom Mounts!

I've always thought that the Vehicle-Specific Mounts (VSM) from Pro-Fit were a nice touch to a vehice's interior.

They also have "generic" mounts if you're interested in something like that.

If you don't like the vent mount idea, Motorola makes a hanger that hangs onto the door panel; it hooks between the window glass and the door panel and the scanner hangs onto it.

Or, lots of companies make a pedestal type mount that screws to the dash or transmission hump; most of them are adjustable to allow you to be able to read the scanner's display.

Not to mention that you could custom dsign a mount from a celluelar phone mount if you have the time and skills... and a side note: I saw an awesome custom made dual mount holding an RS PRO-96 and a BC296D side by side on a Harely Davidson with amped speakers and perm mounted scanner ants at a local show last weekend. Wish I had had my camera with me to get the pics to show here. It was sweet.

with apologies....

i don't mount my 96 on the vent any more... a lot of condensation after a long day in the rolling office... and, for what it is worth, given the price, i didn't feel fully comfortable with the thing dangling above the floor.... you know mr. murphy's law, anything that can end up on the floor-will.
