I have programing set up in Win500 for R-S PRO197 and PRO651. Can this be loaded into the Whistler WS1098?

I don't think it can be done directly from Win500, but it can be done directly from the scanner using EZScan. I have done it by connecting my PSR 500 to computer and then use EZScan to import from the PSR 500 and save it into a V-Scanner folder. Just have to make sure you select the correct Com Port. Also make sure to do it from the File drop down menu in the upper left corner in EZScan. It lists the WS1040/1065, but it works with other scanners, it works with my PSR 500.

Thanks, sounds like that should work. I've never used E-Z scan but will try this. Appreciate the reply.

Programing WS1098 with EZ Scan

Does anyone know if there is a program like Win500 that can be used to program the Whistler WS1098? The included Whistler EZ Scan program seems very complicated and difficult to use. I get various error codes, error messages saying no driver found when connecting to my PC and scanner lock ups. I was able to get the data from my PRO-197 into EZ Scan and the WS1098 but the whole concept using EZScan seems much less user friendly than the Win500 program. I have been using Win500 for many years to program both GRE and Whistler scanners and it works great.

EZ Scan

There are no second party programs like EZ Scan that I know of. If your errors are about drivers, the problem is not the program but the USB driver. I run EZ Scan on Windows XP, 7, and 10. On the 7 and 10 computers, I have tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions successfully. You need to completely uninstall the faulty drivers and EZ Scan, reboot the computer and do a clean reinstall.

Thanks for the quick reply. Guess I'll have to get serious about learning to use EZScan, so far it's anything but EZ compared to Win500.

For temporary use until you get the USB driver to work, you can use a USB card reader or a card reader if your computer has one. This works way better for updating programming on the SD card. I always update my SD card programming with a card reader.

However any radio firmware updates cannot be done this way, will still need to be done with USB cable.

EZscan is actually not a difficult program at all to use, been using it for over 2 years now and it is actually easy to use.

It just looks more complicated than Win500 so far. Example: setting alerts, Win500 has a drop down box showing the different colors, audio beeps and flash for each object or group. It seems that a series of alpha/numeric codes are needed for EZ Scan and I haven't found a definition of which codes match which colors, flash, etc. Thanks for your reply. I did use the card reader to update the SD card as I could not get it to work thru the scanner. Whole experience just seems more complicated, ( remove faceplate, SD card, update in PC, archive, load back in scanner, reattach control head, load objects) compared to just plugging in the programming cable and either "send to scanner" or "receive from scanner" with Win500. As well as the insert, copy, paste features similar to MS Word that can be used in Win500 and just a simple "save of save as" rather than archive. Just getting old and resistant to new tech I guess. Thanks again.

Those codes are hexidecimal color values you can make millions of different colors, google is your friend. Ezscan is easy to use if you just free your mind from the old program you used.

You can pick the LED colors from clicking in this area, Can make your own custom colors, flash , solid, also that will give you the Hex number.

OK, I think I'm getting the hang of using EZ scan. I've got all my data in, (261 objects) using the card reader on my PC. Installed it back in the scanner, connected it to the PC by USB and updated the CPU and DSP,
turned it on and it went thru several bars of verifying. I pressed the right arrow to scan, it beeped and said NOTHING TO SCAN!
I removed and re-inserted the sad card multiple times and still NOTHING TO SCAN!
Any idea why it isn't finding the programed data? I am at a loss at this point.

Make sure you have the scanlist enabled and scanset.

Has to do with Scan set under the Advanced Features Menu. The Easier to Read manual talks about the Nothing to Scan, and also on Whistlers website in the Faqs area under support.

Also make you have the Show Advanced Tab selected under the Advanced drop down menu at the top. May as well check the Show Trunked System Tab and Conventional Frequency Tab if they are not already checked.

Here is something to read that will help you out also, good to read up and learn the scanner.

Easier to Read Whistler WS1095/1098 Base/Mobile Scanner and Software Manual

Thanks for the info. I checked and looks like it is set correctly. I also got a couple of error messages and the scanner would not turn on during this time.(03-02 and 03-01), both relating to the SD card. I reformatted and re-inserted a couple of times but still found nothing to scan. Then I reformatted a new SD card and that worked, scanner now seems to be working correctly. Thanks again, lot to learn about this one even though I have been using/programming scanners for over 40years!

Got my WS1098 alert lights set up for every object and they worked for awhile then stopped. Scanner still receives and screen displays object information like normal but no alert light. Has anyone else had this problem?

The stock generic sd cards that whistler was using in many models (not in my trx2) are known to cause weird issues when they start to fail. I would replace the card with a sandisk class 4 card, prepare it and copy your data to it.

You can try to repair the card in windows, then format it and reinstall your data,

When you say alert light. Do you mean the screen light or LED light?

It's the LED colored light. It's erratic now that I have watched it receive calls. Sometimes it comes on when there is first traffic on a channel, then goes off and doesn't come on when there is more traffic on the same channel. Other times it doesn't come on at all even though there is a lot of traffic on a channel. Doesn't appear to be any consistency, conventional and trunking systems, sometimes the LED activates, other times it doesn't on the same channels. Regarding the suggestion to replace the SD card, I did this a couple of days ago when the scanner was giving the NOTHING TO SCAN message.
Thanks for the suggestions and help.

When you started using new SD card. Did you use the Prepare Scanner Memory/SD Card for use the first time?
