MP3 recording devices for SWL?

I'm looking for a good solution for recording shortwave programs onto MP3 files. I don't have a receiver that has the MP3 recording feature built-in.

Can anyone recommend a good MP3 recording device with a line in - possibly with the ability to be programmed to turn on at a particular time to catch a particular radio show?

Also, I would want said device not to have too much electronic noise that the receiver would pick up.

I also use the ScanRec software. I highly recommend it. I've been using it for a few years now.

Im guessing this uses an audio cable from the scanner jack to the soundcard mic input jack? If so, do you know if it records in stereo, or mono? The new Uniden's have a stereo jack, even though its a mono signal.

Both stereo and mono. I'd select the line input, the mic input is too sensitive.

I would also suggest using a line isolation device, you don't want ground loop noise in your signals

I've always used Xcorder, but this creates a wav file. FREEWARE XCorder - great audio recorder, it records when modulation is detected in the signal, saves a lot of time and hard disk space

What I had was a old laptop and a thumb drive to record the audio to so the hard drive was freed and could stop spinning.
