My Whistler WS1098 is scanning the MPSCS system in Northern Michigan. I primarily monitor the Oscoda County, MI sites, but other sites in nearby/adjoining counties are programmed as well for when I'm in/near those counties and/or propagation is favorable. I've noticed that several sites/counties use one or more of the same control channel frequencies throughout the system. If I choose to display sites, the actual site I'm receiving is not always displayed, but another county site with the same control channel frequency is displayed instead. The particular county site displayed, however, is too far for me to receive, so I must be receiving the closest site with the same control channel (signal strength indicates 5 bars). For example, the Mio site sometimes displays appropriately as Mio, yet other times as Genesee County when receiving Oscoda Co Sheriff or Oscoda Co EMS. The Genesee Co. site, however, is too far for me to receive, especially at 5 bars signal strength. And the West Branch site (nearby Ogemaw Co. at 4 bars) will sometimes display as West Branch and other times as Rogers City (Presque Isle Co.) Question: Do the sites use a PL equivalent that's programmable into the WS1098? Or, simply, is there a way to accurately display the site being received without locking out the other site(s) or control channel(s)?

That is the advantage of the SDS100 and SDS200 scanners being able to use Site NAC. With Site NAC, the scanner can differentiate between sites using the same control channel frequencies. Site NAC acts likes a PL tone so the scanner knows which site is actually being received.

Probably have the wildcard on that will pickup any talkgroup that appears on the tower you picking up.
Its possible if say someone from Genesee is say transporting a prisoner to-from and passing through your area and so only temporarily will get some long distance ones.

Maybe you are scanning the entire MI database so you need to at least put in your local zipcode.
General rule of thumb in 850's MHz is you can get your county and surrounding counties. Outside antenna could boost that at times to the next counties.
Getting Genesee from Oscoda is just not going to happen from ~120 miles away.

Far as the sds' there is no reason to get those expensive models since there is no simulcast - multiple towers using the same frequencies and talkgroups from middle of the lower peninsula and north.
