A friend of mine told me that there was a statewide talkgroup for fire departments on the MPSCS although he could not tell the TG# and I can not find it on the RR site. Does anyone know of this TG or does it even exist?

Doesn't exist. The DNR has some regional talkgroups for their firefighting ops, but the only statewide groups reserved for a particular agency I can think of would be the MSPx talkgroups.

He may be referring to a TAC channel. Most if not all FDs that will be using the system should have access to all the TAC channels for obvious reasons.

There are talkgroups labeled in some radios that read "EMSCOM" and "FIRECOM," which are statewide talkgroups. However, I have never heard them used before nor has anyone else for that matter. That being said, there are a couple of DNR freqs on VHF-High band that are being used for fireground comms, in addition to 154.295 MHz.

Moreover, if a lot of fire departments need to communicate during a major disaster, they can contact the NCC, and use a few of the statewide event channels. This would provide all of the agencies involved several common talkgroups they could use to quickly establish direct contact with each other.

Some of the state parks use both MPSCS and the old low band freqs. I heard that up north some of the DNR fire activity is on both as well.

DNR Fire activity can be heard on both here in NLP. High band communications is most often used to communicate with the municipal departments and the dispatch authorities of the jurisdiction they are responding in. They use the MPSCS for everything else. The technicians removed all the low band equipment from fire equipment.

I kind of figured it sounded to good to be true!! That would be nice to hear everyone in the state but I would think that you would also get some sensory overload in return!

Even if there is a statewide group, it would work just like the Event groups - it would be for communicating between agencies and only monitorable within the local area. Being statewide means you can access the talkgroups statewide, not that every tower in the state gets every transmission.
