MSP and the night vision goggles

Did anyone hear about the state police wanting to use night vision goggles
inorder to catch people not wearing seatbelts during the nighttime hours?
And Now... Governor Ehrlich doesnt want troopers using the goggles...

yes, i heard of it briefly. I understood that the Gov'nr orderd the superintendant to discontinue the practice.

Agreed, they are a great tool if put to use in a capacity where it can do the most good.

A note of clarification...

The MSP were not in the practice of using them. They don't own any.
This was a one-time test and eval session in Montgomery county. The goggles were borrowed from the Army for this one-time test.

The news media is phrasing this as some kind of power play by the governor. "He yanked them from the state police"
MSP never owned them.

ah. thanks for clearing that up baybum. The way i heard it was that they were using them and the Gov said "knock it off". We all know how the media is an impartial and straightforward source of information.... :roll:

BTW, the night vision thing was a national campaign, part of the Clickit or Ticket thing that just ended. All those troopers were on overtime. Night vision for seat belts is a bit over the top, but this idea actually came down from the State itself, (not the night vision, the night time enforcement) as part of the federal campaign; it wasn't just dreamed up for something to do. :wink:

However, in the aftermath according to a story in the Baltimore Sun, the Montgomery County police spokesman (Eric something) said the county owns night vision equipment and would NOT rule out using them for this purpose. This story came from "The Sun Paper", that alone should tell you something.
They are 100% full of liberal bunk. They hate the police, and our Gov.
The Sun Paper is in some sort of satanic pact with the aclu to do its best to pollute our minds and souls with lies and misgivings. Every story that gets pasted on that rag sheet is slanted more than my "A Frame" roof.

Night Vision gear would be dangerous for an officer to use. Why?
Well wear some and then have someone shine a big spotlight in your face. Then try to drive. All you would see is green spots before your eyes.
This is why FoxTrot uses thermal/IR CCD cameras at night to spot bad guys.

Can't be sure who was talking, but, I just heard someone say that they have some new night vision goggles and they want to try 'em out. This was just about 5 minutes ago. Sorry, I can't give any more specific info.

On my way into Annapolis last night, on RT 50, just east of the Davidsonville exit, I passed an unmarked cruiser who was sitting on the left shoulder and he was standing outside his car holding something up to his eyes. I blew by at about 70mph, so i am not sure what it was, but I don't think it was binoculars.

FYI: A laser speed gun is held up to one's eye for aiming, unlike radar. Could that be what you blew by?

Well...it is very dark down in that hollow where they sit, so I can't be sure....but he was holding it like binoculars, I believe they usually hold the lasers with one hand in front of the other...not side to side...Does anyone have a picture of what the night vision they are using looks like?
